No, my mind is already changed about heat bombs. The jars are now sitting in an Igloo with that same heat bomb and the temps are currently at a stable 81.5F. Or at least that's the temp it's been for the last hour, so I doubt it's going up much further.
And I can't ask for any closer to perfect than that.

wow this thread is all over the place, mostly about beer, and containing otherwise incorrect info
i went off on the 'nutes required for LC in another thread. read my post here - was explaining why sorbitol would be a bad choice... but similar goes for white sugar... its too complex for the myc to digest. there's some other ideas in there of things you can use, and an actual answer based on fact *gasp* about what does and what doesn't carmelize in a PC.
as for the "clearness" factor, it doesn't matter one way or another whats floating in there... folks like it clear so it looks pretty, and to make it easy to spot a contam. IMO the LC process is pretty resistant to contams in the first place. not worth the filtering and extra steps and equipment and trouble i think. it won't improve growth any, and that's what you're after anyway. to each their own i suppose!

Yeah, but it'll caramelize and I'll filter out the solute then re-PC.

I'll be completely honest. Right now I have an LC going that looks like river water. I know it'll work. Like you suggested, I just want something pretty to take nice pictures of.
I'll check out that link for the list of what doesn't caramelize. Thanks!
