same as a pf cake. id put in a bunch of verm. that would help when fruiting. you need a wide mouth jar of course.

why are you doing a grain cake though. its pretty much defeats teh purpose of doing grain. the best part of grain is that you can shake it so it colonizes super fast!

you can always scoop it all out in to a tray and case the grain. again id mix in some wet verm to help with water. this would get teh same yeild as a grain cake but would be done faster.

because i was supposed to do a bulk hpoo w/ casing and all that. (mycoshack bulk grow kit) but my jars got bacterial contam all 6. so i ordered a mycobag. but it seems that some of the jars are beating the bacteria. and im gonna be using the bag instead of teh jars.

doesn't matter just mix it with some wet verm and case if you arn't spawning to poo. this is your best bet since grain don't hold moisture very well you relaly should case it.

Im not 100% sure what you're asking.

I'll say that pf cakes can be fruited as cakes.. because of the mixture that they are made of. They stick together well once colonized and will easily fruit out without crumbling. They don't crumble up all that well when casing with them, but they work fine for casing as well.

Grains are better for casing/bulk because they can easily be shaken and broken up... thus creating more contact points for the mycellium when spawned to something like straw or horse dung. If you are doing grain jars it should be highly recommended that you at least case them.. if not spawn them.

Grain is also said to be more nutritious.

you could use grain in a cake, but the reason you use BRF is cause you get a better packing density (ie more calories in the same space and less air) I've made a WBS cake black rice cake and just normal rye grain cakes using fine vermiculite. they all produced about the same yield, but standard pf cakes yielded more.

there isn't any. don't make a grain cake. just stick it into a little try and put a thin casing on even if is only verm. then let it incubate 2 or 3 days and check it to see if the myc has started poking through.

I would say yes.  You will want to keep your humidity up like any other fruiting chamber.

I personally use cracked corn and fruited directly from the cakes.  Cheap and easily acquired plus the benefit of shaking to colonize super fast.  And I dont have to grind up the rice which is really annoying!
