Some badass looking fish down there.
They're pretty psychedelic looking, so I figured i'd post it here.

It'd be cool to trip and scuba dive at the same time.

The worms crawl in the worms crawl out The ant play pennuckle in your snout The big black bug with big red eyes crawls in your innards And out your sides You squish him up, spread him on bread That's what you eat when you are dead

it would actually be amazing, a night dive while tripping, its already pretty trippy down there with just the plankton lighting up when u move, while tripping would be whack. personally I'd be too afraid of opening my mouth in awe and losing the mouth piece though. high chance of a bit of a freak out there...

Not to mention how dangerous diving can be...
BBC had a series "Blue Planet". One of the episodes was about all the creatures found at the deepest parts of the ocean, how they've adapted to low light conditions, and the photage is absolutely amazing. I don't remember the exact episode, but it's deffinitely worth looking for...
One shrimp I remember in particular. It releases a small ball of bioluminescent chemicals into the water that create a bright neon-blue/white glow, the ball's light dies out and then has a delayed explosion of light to distract predators and to lead them away from the shrimp. Another shrimp used a similar defense except it would cover the prey in the chemicals making it visible to all of its predators (OWNED). They had a really cool shot of an angler fish (think that's what it was, it's been awhile ago) in the shadows with its face glowing neon blue... Would probably make a pretty informative tripping video...
Same episode also had some pretty amazing photage of jelly fish and the like...

Haha I was just about to recommend that same video. Damn cool - pretty much all the animals noone has seen before. Crazy shit!
http://ts.searching.com/torrent/308248/BBC_The_Blue_Planet_Ep2_The_Deep_DivX511_AC3_www_MVgroup_org ^Is the torrent - guys download it you'll be amazed.
There's even an underwater lake - it is a very obvious pool about a 1km down, so bizarre. Last night I had my first mushroom experience a small dose and I watched the coral sea episode, damn cool.
I love all that marine stuff - at the moment I'm setting up my fishtank for a pet octopus.
I have thought about that scuba diving under water thing it would be real dangerous, although I agree awesome - just go to the public aquarium, safe cheap and still fun.

An octopus eh? Not fucking around... I used to be really into aquariums when I was a kid (ages 5-12). Never got anything TOO fancy set up. I'd still like to get a reef tank once I have the money, and Jelly fish would be sweet to have if they didn't have so many special requirements. Never really lost interest in fish, just spread my interest into reptiles and arachnids. Tarantulas are just so cool...

Great link. There are some pretty crazy critters here on the surface, but you really have to go underwater to see the "otherworldly" creatures. Plus bioluminescence exceeds 90% at some depths. My favorite have always been cuttlefish. They're intelligent; problem-solving intelligent. When they look at you sometimes, you can tell they're working things out. Then they jump on your head. I've seen it a hundred times.
Cool link to cephalopods

For those who want an amazing demonstration of an octopus colour change - http://www.abum.com/show/3136/octopus_camouflages_itself.html
There has been much debate over whether it's real, even some video experts claimed it was false. However a famous octopus researcher is the one who filmed it - and its most definately real. If you're wondering how he knew it was there he followed it til it stopped on the weed, then started filming.

cool stuff, Im going to download it when I get home. I always find it amazing how well these creatures have adapted. I also think, what kind of environment are they really living in, if they have adapted to such extreme looking things......must be a crazy world they live in. Hey, are there underwater mushrooms by any chance? :P

Wouldnt an octopus be prety hard to to take care of and keep happy? I'd figure they'd need a big ass tank for them to have some freedom.
Most of the fish w/ bioluminescence (sp?) are far below the depths where we could dive I think. And diving while on shrooms would definitely be pretty dangerous. It'd probably be best to stick to watching the videos on shrooms =)

Well the suggested size tank for the most common pet octopus ( O. Bimaculoides) is 55G. I have an 80 gallon tank, and am in NZ where we have different octopus species. To keep them it's pretty much a normal marine setup, but you have to make sure there's no way for them to get out.
The consensus is that octos generally enjoy their captivity(within a reasonable tank), as they are actually quite lazy creatures that prefer to stay in their den if they can.
One person on the forums I belong to used to wave at her octopus every day before work, and one day it started waving back at her. Sometimes when its super happy it waves two arms. haha
www.tonmo.com is the octopus community, although I think the sites down at the moment.
