Wow, its been a couple months since i used this forum. i ran out of spores on my last grow and have not restocked. I forgot that i had made my first spore print with my last grow. Just really dont remember how sterile i was when i made the print. anyways im thinking of doind a bird seed grow this time instead of corn. anyone have any good tips for using birdseed?? also, i plan on using half pint jars this time for faster colonization. just wondering how much syringe should i use for each half pint jar. probably will have at least 10cc with this syringe once i make it. i was thinking make 1cc per 1/2 pint jar... also, does colonization go faster when using bird seed ?

I soak my birdseed for 24 hours, rinse for 20 minutes afterwards, and PC as normal. Also, for 1/2 pints, 1cc total, 1/4cc in 4 innoc holes.

using half pints with grain sort of defeats teh purpose. the best part about grain is that you can use a big jar of it and shake it right after inoculation. this way you have many many many many inoculation points starting all over the place. i suggest you use big jars and put in just .5-1 cc in each. shake and just leave it till they are done. if the growth is uneven shake at 30-50 %
make sure you only fill the jar's 3/4 so you have room to shake. shake em right after you pc too while they are still warm beucase if you don't its a pain to get the grain to break up. but if you forget its ok just takes more shaking.
also toss in a spoon of dry verm in the bottom of your jars before you load em. this way you dont' have to drain for an hour. i just drain with the pot lid after simmering just like i would pasta. then i scoop it in and don't have to worry about the jars being too wet. also if you get into LC you can add lots of again not have to worry about wet jars.

I use (and love) Doc's Wild Birdseed Tek to great success. Also, the jars keep for a long time. I started my growing up again last month using Doc Jars from last July, and they made excellent spawn masters, fast colonization and everything after all that time!
As has been said, you should use larger jars. While it certainly helps to leave 1/3rd of the jar empty for shaking purposes, this isn't as much of a necessity for multispore/LC inoculation as it is for G2G, in my opinion, so I leave maybe 1/5th of the jar empty, maybe 1/4th at the most, as I like to get the maximum out of my tiny pressure cooker and grain jars.

i never soak. just simmer for 20 minutes or so until some kernels start exploding, rinse well, shake/drain well (for about 15-20 minutes), load them bitches up and PC for 60+ minutes depending on jar size

i find even easyer the simmering is toss the seeds into boiling water. this stops the boiling bring it up to where the seeds just start to move then turn off the heat put the lid on ans leave it alone for 30 mins or more. just do it in the moring then come back to it its perfect.
