shells should be found anywhere that has birds, petshop or even the discustive wallmart version of pet stores like 'pet cetera' how clever is that it just shouts out cheap and crappy. anyhoo haha. peat should be at garden centers. if teh shit big box stores don't have it go to a real store. in fact just go to a real store big box store blow. somtimes its called sphagnum peat. thats the better stuff.

i was having the same problem as you so i read around this forum to see where they sell stuff like that.
peat moss they sell in the gardening section of big stores like Home Depot/Lowe's. make sure you get the SPHAGNUM type peat moss. the oyster shells i found at a chain pet store in the bird section. it was a green box labeled "oyster shells". they also sell coco coir there as lizard bedding in the reptile section. hope this helped

Your in the PNW and can't find these things?
Where in the PNW are you?
Peat moss will be at Home depot, Lowes and garden supply stores, nurseries...etc.
Oyster shells you can find at Feed Stores...and some pet stores.
You don't wanna use 50/50 with Coco Coir and Verm...
Use 60/40 Verm and Coco Coir or 70/30 Verm and Coco Coir...
always use less coco coir than you use verm.
and when using coco coir for a casing layer...always initiate fruiting as soon as the mycelium just starts to come through the casing layer.

Well I can tell you where most of the Feed Stores are...
within a 80 mile range of Seattle.
so if that helps you...pm me and ask.

think about that. "Do you sterilize the final casing [] substrate and everything"
ill leave you with a question. now if you nuke(sterilize) your substrate will you not kill all what you spend so much time growing?
sterilize the CASING not the SUBSTRATE

It works better to do 50/50+ your self but if you have a wal-mart near bye, i am sure we almost all do.... Pick up some "Jiffy Mix" Basically 50/50 mix all done for you
