Overblowing The Optimum
    #5587926 - 05/03/06 09:34 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

...temperature.

I'm using a Martha in an area whereas it consumes 1/3 of the closet space. I've been using a standard 60W soft white light bulb as my source and I'm afraid it's dispersing entirely too much heat. My incubator sits directly across from the FC and it seems that the overhead light is even beginning to even fluctuate that as well. I've tried adding a ten inch box fan with the air purifier, both of which are blowing air directly over the filter for my coolmist. With the light off, I'm looking at a solid 74-76 degrees, with it on, I'm reaching 80-81.

What kind of effects will this have on my current fruits? And what could be an easy fix as an optional light source?

Thanks in advance. I cut my tyvek with scissors.  :smirk:

Use a fluorescent bulb. They make small ones that fit light sockets.

Or, just use a lower wattage bulb, shrooms don't need a lot of light.

RogerRabbit has done experiments with fruiting temps in the mid 80s.

I myself have my FC in a room that fluctuates between 70-80 and I have no issue with massive pinsets.

Doesn't really matter as long as you are able to drop the temp. about 10F after incubating(to initiate fruiting)...

I wouldn't go over 86F when fruiting, but I usually fruit at like 68F-78F...And incubate at like 84F...

I'm sure you're pinset will be fine, just :eyeball: it.

Bacteria grows really well after like 84F....I'd try and keep fruiting temps. around 74F or so, that way you're roomies do well and you don't have to worry about contams. as much.

Not saying it's impossible by any means, just stating what's easiest.

Just because you die poor doesn't mean you didn't do something great.

Look at all the christains who love jesus. He died a fucking prisoner, and i'm sure he wasn't to rich by that time.

Just saying that what happened to the guy in the end has nothing to really do with what he did before the shit hit the fan.

 lol

I agree. RR has been doing some tests that have been proving things incorrect that we know as (or did know) as Fact...As well as Blue Helix and his ongoing experiment with coir and peat.

As far as your current temps, you're doing okay.

I would certainly switch to a flourescent bulb, but that should be all you do.

agar too has set ups that get 81 with lights on and drop down in the low 70's with them off.  His observations is that it might even improve the immitation of normal light and heat cycles experienced out in our mother's nature.  Don't worry so much.  You're being much more natural than optimal, but who is to say that the optimal temp is really the best?

I guess, I'm just saying don't worry about it, you'll be more than fine with just a flourescent.  Good luck!
