I would cut off what is left of the stem down almost to the first node from the break. Leave like 1/2 inch or so of stem above the node. Use a sterile knife or clippers. You might wanna try and root the part the pigeons broke in some distilled water as well. You might end up with two plants!!

I cut mine all the time. The leaves can grow out of the stem but only where there is a "division". Salvia grows in segments, and in between each segment is where leaves are likely to appear.

If you had a pic I could probably tell you if its likely to regrow or not.

Water it sparingly. It has no leaves so it will not be transpiring much if at all. Only water it when the top inch or so of the soil is dry. The rooted stem will bud out two new shoots from the node in less than a week. When you see the buds a weakly mixed fertilizer solution (1/3-1/2 the recommended mix) would really help to vigorate the new growth.

Put the top section in distilled water tonight. Do not use spring water, drinking water, or tap water. It will most likely be perky by in the morning. You could also mist and cover it up with a 2-3 liter soda bottle.

good luck

Salvia is um.... ten times harder to root, than say a pansy flower cutting( so I've seen and heard). None the less, proper cutting and root forming tek is VITAL
Can anyone say if air layering, soil transplant, or water transplant is best for forming roots on new salvia cuttings?

i have found that water rooting is the easiest.....

but doubt that any one method is superior...

If you can't accept the will of the pidgeons one way or another, without the use of calling them, I quote,"fucking faggot assholes" then maybe salvia is not your plant to grow, hmm? Nature is all one ally, not seperate divisions. Pick and choose how you shall percieve :-)

I just wanted to bump this because now is the time pigeons are getting hungry and will attack your plants. Keep this in mind.
