Hi There, I've got 2 brf cakes ready to fruit, but was wondering if there would be any 'gains' to be had by breaking them up and casing them, like a rye/mycelium bed also, does anyone know the name of the plant hormones used to 'speed-up' the mycelium/shroom growth--it's mentioned in Gartz' book "Magic Mushrooms Of The World"

breaking up your cakes will give you more surface area to fruit from. This can lead to larger pinsets, larger fruits, and a heavier yield then a normal PF cake.
Go to the faq's and read about casing, there's some great tutorials in the archives section. Look for a thread from hyphae called "a pinning strategy".

I never had much success casing PF cakes. They would mold over or just give lousy fruits.. I suggest you go throgh with just cakes once before attempting to crumble and case.

you could crumble and spawn into another medium, manuer or compost would work very well and case that. it will only add a few extra days to your grow cycle but the yeild potency gain will be well worth it, if you dont want to do that you can allways just do 1 cake and see how it works that way even if something goes wrong you still have 1 comming out right.
