just wondering if anyone else has this problem. Usually after 2nd or 3rd flushes i get green mold on my cakes but before that they were just fine i have no idea why this is happening and it seems as if it starts from the inside of the cake going outwards

if using h2o2 i would do a dunk instead of a mist. more effective that way. 10% h2o2 to 90% water

If it is coming from the inside, you might not be sterilizing enough. Try pressure cooking for an extra half hour or so.

Are you bleaching your jars each time you clean them. I didn't w/ a few syringes and had contams every time.
Now every jar is good since i bleach my jars and use H2O2.

mycelium can live in h2o2 and most contams cannot. myclium doesn't like the h2o2 so much though... it might slow things down a bit, from what I gathered about cakes; if I were to try them I would do this:
once cake is ready, open jar and tap out some of the extra verm from the top and fill with distilled water and place new lid on (plastic one bought seperate at the store)
place the jar in the fridge for about 24 hours
remove jar, empty out water, roll cake in dry vermiculite, top and bottom too.
Take the plastic lid and fill it 3/4 with moistened vermiculite and make a little bowl shape .
Set the dunked and rolled cake into the lid directly onto the moist vermiculite.
set the verm covered cake into the fruiting chamber.
Upon flush I would clean the cake of aborts and such and dunk again in the same manner, this time adding just a tad of h202 to the dunking water... just a tad.
repeat until the cake is spent
so only using peroxide on the second and subsequent dunks..
just an opinion of mine I read somewhere where someone else deserves credit... dunno who, I don't use cakes but I hope this helps.

I soak all of my jars in 10:1 bleach solution for like 20-30 minutes before cleaning them with anti-bacterial soap..
Never once had a contam problem due to substrate, always my laziness in inoculation

your casing might be getting too acidic by the 2nd or third flush. Green mold loves acid.... what are you using to buffer Ph?
