Need Pro help on casing ASAP
    #5583339 - 05/02/06 09:37 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I have reason to beleive i've been 'fruiting' 4 casings of pure cobweb for 4 days. This isn't because im lazy and can't wait for pins, i know with my semi-low humidity (80s) it'll be a while. but, the mycellium looks very very fine, in the idium of cobweb, not thick and ropey like i know mushroom mycellium to be. i don't know what to do i don't want to keep fruiting cobweb and basically drench my martha in cobweb spores, this would fuck my shit up. I know that i cased the 60/40 with SA mycellium for a fact. but it just looks so fine, and the way it's creeping around...i know it's hard to tell without a close look, but the best i can do is post this pic and let you know the myc is very very fine.

Your opinion???

also i should say in the 4 days it hasn't really grown vegitativley, which i know cobweb would, but it's a little high humidity and a lot of fresh air so this might stump cobweb's growth...

It's to white to be cobweb. You just waited to long to initiate pinning. It also needs more time. Give it two weeks before worrying.

Ehhh, I'd like to say it's just overlay... the areas along the bottom that are less white are still thick growth wise. I can't really tell if its just out of focus, or if it is in face greyish.

I'm sticking with overlay though.

I would agree...I dont see cobweb. That looks like fine white mycelium to me and possibly starting to overlay bad. Someone with a little more experience like hyphae might be better at telling you how to prevent overlay. He's got an awesome pinning strategy on here somewhere. Just search his main posts or PM him for advice.

i know i've overlaid if it's mushroom myc i waited too long because my coolmist didn't arrive in the mail till late. i know i've initiated a bad pinset, but theyr'e just test casings for my new grow room. i hope it's just overlay and delayed pinning because i know how to fix that. thanks for your input, more would be appreciated though!

this is great news. im glad. i wouldn't have really been sad if i had fucked up my test casings, they were 4 or 20 that im about to do, just testing out my new martha. but if it was cobweb, i wouldn't want my whole setup to be caked in cobweb spores, though im not super knowledgeable as to how they fruit or send spores out. Well thanks for reassuring me, i can't wait to see how these turn out.

Yea, it's looking fine. Remember, the mycelium colonized the coir fully as a substrate, therefore you're essentially fruiting an uncased bulk substrate. Yours is fully colonized, but also not overlayed. Overlay is rare.

Quit being an asshole mitch. You don't decide which questions are appropriate, the moderating staff does.

Majlo, your tray is fully colonized, but will fruit fine. You're fruiting essentially an uncased bulk substrate because it is impossible to add moisture to the casing layer once it's fully colonized. Cakes spawned to coir, then cased in peat/verm is a great combo, but horse manure is much cheaper(free) as a substrate than coir.
