Went hunting again after class, uhh. Found some Croogomphus vinicolor again (they're just so pretty when they're fresh), nasty ink caps, probably C. micaceus (as usual), Helvella lucanosa (weirder than morels), a few patches of what are either Boletus orovillus or Boletus appendiculatus, what i think may be Macrolepiota procera, and an load of others thus unidentified. Here are some very bad photos for your viewing frustration

Well... I tend to go around different places. I have been incorrect on some assumptions of good mushroom territory, such as a lagoon a few months ago, and a golf course with lots of pine trees and brush area, even a huge pile of abandoned soil and a few stacks of decaying straw barrells proved fruitless. But I'd say I have had more luck than failure. I realized that my school campus is teeming with mushrooms (right across from the barren lagoon!), and i've found quite a few in strip malls with trees and bushes around the parking lot, the side of a busy road, vacant lots, and private property (I asked permission- be sure to ask if you think they will notice you!). There are still a hundred places I have scanned while driving that I suspect have some goodies growing. Also, it's not all location, you have to LOOK, like really look. Not just glance over. Mushrooms can be hard to see! If you are looking through wood chips or plant debri, and see little lumps here and there, go check them out. I have found a lot of mushrooms from simply inspecting odd lumps in wood chip piles... be careful where you step! You might be stomping mushies, or.............. a bee hive. heh.

youve got Lepiota/ Macrolepiota/ Chlorophyllum rachodes.....many deadly Lepiotas bruise similiarly......and the other as much as I can see should be Boletus amygdalinus....caution red pores.....and Im sure as you know Agaricus.....quite the haul....do you actually eat Chroogomphus....dry them?

I thought that procera was a better description and pictures fit closer than rachodes. What makes you think it is rachodes and not procera?? As for the Bolete.... it is most certainly not amygdalinus. I am certain. The picture makes the pale mushroom appear darker, and you cannot see the pale yellow cap. I'm sticking with appendiculatus or orovillus. but thanks for the caution... Not gonna eat any bolete though, they scare me.... the uhh, sponge.
The Croogomphus I want to try, but all the table worthy specimens are so pretty I can't bring myself to cook them! Hahaha, I know that sounds ridiculous.... I think i am going to try and clone them though

Of course not seeing the cap could be any of several orange pored species.......just thought Id throw Amygdalinus by you as possibility as its an easy species to escape consideration as theres not much to be found mentioned in many books as its apparently endemic to California .....and you did mention thinking possibly Appendiculatus which tends to be yellow brownish alot of the time (although can be quite yellow occasionally)........and Amygdalinus can also have alot of yellow mixed with the brown also.......I would guess probably not Appendiculatus though as it has only YELLOW pores but definately one of the best Ive ever eaten. and on the Lepiota in your pics you can already see the signs of the orange red bruising which is especially noticed when cutting.......this will immediatly distinguish from Procera which consistantly has an exceptionally thin long stem in comparison to the cap size (stem to cap ratio) and typically has the small scaly patterning below the annulus down the stem .......Rachodes can also have thin stalks at times but tends to be much more shaggy on the cap in general....and also.......Procera is EXTREEEEMLY rare in California and only occurring in the southern part of the state when it does.....and the Chroogomphus.....YUK !.......believe me Ive more than tried......though some people swear by em.......many say drying improves the flavor but ummmmmm........ and remember as mentioned caution with sponge mushrooms with reddish pores that bruise blue
