TOOL Ticket Strategy
    #5581739 - 05/02/06 03:08 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

So my plan is to go down to the Paramount here in Seattle about half an hour before the doors open and look for tickets. I will lowball any scalpers up to $200, starting at $100. Maybe this is unrealistic but my hypothesis is that the ticket prices have been overinflated and that bubble will be burst when tonight comes and these fuckers still have tickets to get rid of.

My main concern is fraudulent tickets. Do you think a scalper could somehow be slinging convincing fakes? Also, is there anyone else who wants to go to TOOL tonight in Seattle who doesn't have tickets who might want to team up with me to lowball the scalpers? Any feedback from people with experience in this sort of affair would be appreciated.

it's possible. let them walk with you to the entrance so the ticket can be veryfied. (or is buying tickets on the street illegal?)

When Tool played at the Tabernacle in Atlanta to kick off the release and tour of Lateralus, dozens maybe hundreds of fake tickets were sold. Tickets were going for 200-250 apiece on eBay, hopefully those weren't the fakes.
Just sharing, I imagine that was a one time thing, somebody's get-rich-quick shcheme. Good luck in seeing Tool. I hope you find a ticket. :peace:

Well $300 was about the bare minimum for a ticket bought out in front of the venue. All tickets being sold were from organized scalpers, a group of about five black dudes. No one and I mean NO ONE else was selling TOOL tickets, except for the one asshole who wanted $500-$800 for his pair of floor tickets.. There were a few people testing the waters with their own tickets, offering for six or seven hundred. Two people did this but even if I'd had it, I doubt they would have sold them anyways. Only a fool or someone with serious disposable income would pay that much anyway.

I actually found that the best deals were right as people were getting there. $300 could buy a ticket early on but as more and more buyers appeared the prices went up. One of the scalpers I was nearby for a while would always set the price $50 higher than what someone offered. That meant that the price for one of his tickets was $300-$500 depending on who asked him and when. And then when the radio promo guy came over with a handful of bottled beverages and said "Anyone want a drink.....they're free" The scalpers were the ones who jumped on it. They were more vulture than human. Fucking scumbags. It was almost an object lesson in taking advantage of people. All of the scalpers had signs saying they needed tickets because they wanted to buy more and sell them for even more. But no one else was selling. The only tickets scalpers sold were what they had already bought up beforehand. I'm sure the price went down after the show started, but by that time I was looking for a spot where I could hear from outside and I was sick of dealing with the scalper game. I heard that a while in, one guy bought a ticket form a scalper for $80 and was turned away at the door. It was a spent ticket. I also heard buzzing around that when TOOL came back up this way they will be playing The Gorge, but that could just be rumor.

I also took Harlequin's advice and made a sign and it help get people's attention but alas, I got no ticket. I crossed the street back over to the venue about a quarter after 8:00 and realized TOOL had started, so I found a spot were a few other people were and sat/stood there while TOOL played on the other side of a 1.5" door. I was actually standing right against this door for the first five songs or so and the house was vibrating right into me. It was quite an experience really, hearing it from that perspective and not being able to see the band, only the other dissapointed souls huddling around me. I actually went numb in my arms and hands by about the fifth song in, a combination of the wind chill, pinched nerves and the powerfull music surging through that building and my body as I leaned against it. it was a worthwile experience and hey, I saved the $200 I was prepared to spend.

If you go to one of these show looking to buy a scalper's ticket, be aware, it's a sellers market. Or at least it was in Seattle.

Tool is playing a full stadium tour at the end of summer. It would be cool to see them in a small place but IMO they are a good large venue band. Tickets for these shows were basically sold out before they even officially went on sale. Lots of people get first opportunity at tickets and no one is going to pass up one that will resell for 750%.
