i got the mycoshack bulk grow kit. but only 2 grain jars survived out of 6. would that affect yield? or would the mycelium multiply and be the same as having 6 jars

well 2 quarts of spawn is good for about 5 pounds or a bit more of prepared bulk substrate

its horse poo with casing soil thats what they gave me and it says on the instructions to put half of the horse poo and then half of the colonized jars and then the rest of the horse poo and the rest of the jars then after 10 days its the tiem to case when the poo is colonized, so im guessing it doesnt matter if there is only 2 jars. because the poo will be filled with mycelium. maybe they gave me 6 so teh poo colonizes faster. correct me if im wrong.

i like to mix the spawn and the poo... gets a faster colonization IME.

as long as your ratio of spawn to poo doesn't get too out of wack... i would worry about it.

yeah it really all depends on the amount of sub they give you i would imagine that they give you extra jars so you have the best chance possible of having the mycelium completely colonize the sub. To give yourself the best shot possible i would suggest making sure that your grain spawn is as broken up as much possible to give you the greatest amount of inoculation points possible

ok so just a confirmation i would still get the same amount of yield if i had 6 jars? using 2, just slower colonization of the poo?

and when breaking the grains do i just break grains off one by one? because their stuck together

Have you tried layering, I too mixed but it seems uneven, not perfect.

But I have been using layers, of hpoo and spawn and then hpoo 2-3 layers.

they say the more spawn the better the flush. i beleive this is true in most cases.

no when breaking the grains you simpley shake the jar until the grains have fallen apart.

i have tried layering but the key to evenness is to even it out before you incubate. save a lot of head aches. my last koh samui grow flushed like shit because it was uneven from lazyness.

as for what you need to do for spawning~

i use roast pans made of tin foil. i swab with alcohol to sterilize and then allow it to dry. then lay down the poo layer first.very small layer just enough to cover the bottom. the add one jar of grains to the pan and poo. even it out if that is what you feel confortable doing, then add a second layer of poo. even that out nice and then add your second jar of grains and even it out flat. protect that by a final layer of poo and even it out. incubate until the entire top layer is covered then case.

what are roast pans made of tin foil?. can i use my fruiting chamber and cover it with tinfoil instead?
