wtf 1 flush and contaminated?

why would my cake become contaminated after its first flush?
It Only produced 2 mushrooms, so i dunked it and i went to return it to the fc and there were blue spots all over it. They wiped off when i touched it with a papper towl. Is there a chance that my other cakes will now become contamed?
Also my perlite looks nasty? How do i keep it from looking like a breeding ground for contams? I think that may be a prob but i dont know. I used h2o2 in it.
How sterile should my enviroment be where my fruiting chamber is? Should i be wearing gloves and using lysol when FAE takes place or when harvesting?
Thanks

I'd be extremely careful.. mold can be dangerous. Its possible the blue spots may have been bruises from your handling the cake, though.
In the future one of the first things you should do if you use perlite is place it on a cookie tray. Then add enough water to make sure that all of the perlite is moist, and then toss it in the oven at a pretty high temp. This should sterilize the perlite. Since its volcanic ash you can let it sit in the oven as long as you want - it really won't hurt to be in there longer.
For FAE you should be able to just open the FC, fan, and be done with it. For harvesting you should always wear gloves, or at least try to. Also make sure you pull off everything when you twist off a mushroom. Little bits of stems left over are prone to rot, and bring about lots of mold.

Not sure what happened there. Cakes are usually pretty damn resistant to contams. Make sure that your cakes are 100% colonized before birthing. By that, I mean that I would wait another week after the outside looks completely colonized to ensure that the inside of the cake is colonized. Then dunk it for 12-24 hours in clean water, roll it in dry verm or just dab off the excess water with a clean paper towel. Any standing water on the cake can help harbor contams.
I've never needed to be overly clean when it came to cakes, just use common sense and clean hands.

Don't sweat it. You're not the first to throw away a bruised cake. At least you know you're your growing it right.
Peace.
