Do you have a prodigy?

Alright, so, recently a close friend of mine has been expressing more and more interest in growing. He does not know that I've grown, but I'm considering telling him, and offering to help teach him some of the ropes. At the very least I want to trade spore prints with him.. he's got like 5 prints of z-strain, and I'm gonna see if he'll swap one for a print of ban hua thanon.
Have any of you ever had a "prodigy" or student that you basically taught how to grow? What is everyone's opinion on this? I know when I first started a teacher would've been invaluable and probobly could've turned my first attempt from a raging failure to an amazing success. So what does everyone think? Too dangerous?

its dangerous to go around telling people of course, but this case is a little different, since you'll have just as much dirt on them as they do you
two sets of eyes on the lookout for deals on verm or handy equipment at a thrift shop is better than one! and when all you need is another handful of casing mix it'd be nice to have someone to just go and borrow some from i don't see a problem, especially if its a close friend. just make sure the first thing you teach him is to keep it on the down low too... because two mouths blabbing is one case where two is NOT better than one.

Learned from the Shroomery. Always made a point to never include anyone I know in real life, and I'm still here. Life in this arena is easier when people don't have a clue, and even better when they would never suspect you. Don't you want to keep it that way?

Hmm... yeah. I'm not 100% sure which way I want to go. There's a lot of pros, and a lot of cons. IRL only 1 other person knows what I do, and that's the girl who gets me horse poo from her stables.

Just tell her that your Grandpa grows Shiitake mushrooms and you know alot about growing. Then show that friend what to do and when he/she is done growing them tell them the advice wasn't free and take the first flush .

I have yet to find someone worthy of passing on my knowledge to them. It doesnt sound like you know this other person very well since you are even contemplating wether he will trade a spore print or not. A lot of people would find growing interesting but few have the patience or the dedication to actually learn how to do it well. My advice on an protigy is that if someone comes along and shows the interest and dedication then by all means share you knowledge, but if they just want to get a few grams just so they can trip, I dont think it worth it, just show them the shroomery.

Well see, the actual reason why I'm apprehensive about trading spore prints is basically, well, you can tell someone that you're only using spores for microscopy purposes but they might not believe your intentions. I figure if the person isn't trustworthy as a prodigy, i'd rather not expose myself in another way, you know?

It's always nice to have a teacher there helping you. But it's up to you if you want to take the extra risk.
I always want someone there to help me get rid of the bodies , but I never do

Awww, I think we'd all help you get rid of the bodies. I even know some pig farmers!
You raise some good points though. I may hold off on showing him how to do anything explicitly. I think i can trust him, but until I KNOW I can its not worth the risk. Shroomery can do the work for me After all, it worked well enough for me, lol.

i couldn't agree more. i have two people my girl of 8 years and a friend that i have known half my life, who has a bunch of "friends"(elephant dung connections, horse poo connections, discounts on supplies, etc.)
you really have to trust them with your life because in a sense... you are

You really need to think who is to know. Back in June 2005 I had a friend I knew for 15 years give me up.He walked with out spending any money or doing any jail time. I got 10 years probated to 5 years, a $2500.00 fine plus paying for probation and UA's. By the time I'm off probation I will have spent around $20,000.00. I would of never seen something like this coming but that is how the man opperates.

the spread of knowledg is the most important thing to be doing in this world. just try to do it in a non-incriminating way. just say you used to grow shrooms with and old roommate or some shit and then you can teach without having to think he know to much.
as for trading prints, just say that you saved some and wish to expant your colection for mycroscopy comparrisons.

Don't tell anyone.
Damn Kapt, i thought it ended up not being that friend of yours. sorry to hear that. I followed your unfortunate and painful to watch thread closely. I noticed the pictures of a certain person's truck and liscense plate. Hopefully some sort of justice came about. peace.

If you have to come to here for advice as to whether or not you should share your information it is probably not a good idea. If there is even any question in your mind as to whether or not this person could sell you out then you don't need to be sharing any information with them. The fact that they are telling you they would like to grow and you are not telling them that you do should send you a pretty clear message. They talk about shit, and you don't. Not saying the whole mentor apprentice thing is never a good idea, just doesn't seem too applicable here.

well let me gaurentee you my first call wouldn't be for bail.
as for me i'm not worried about it in the least bit but for you... you have a subconcious doubt about this person if you had to ask here, you prolly shouldn't do it. like someone else said just direct them to this site. tell them you were surfing the web and came across it. it's the best you can do.
