i attempted to use part of a casing to colonize some grains but the end result was contamination every time i attempted it.

A casing is there to provide a good micro climate for pins to form, mostly to hold the proper moisture content. It too, does not have any nutes for myc to grow on. No again.
If you are trying to clone a mushroom, you can use wet cardboard.

you have 5 posts and you wanna be an ass? The truth is it would work, theoretically if you had 0 contaminants on the cap, and 0 got in the jar, but that could never happen.

NO!!!>... do not listen! ha! Mycilium will colinize in glass, but a cap alone will not colinize dependably. If you are suggesting that you can attain that.. from a mushroom field... i suggest you try noob tek.. Its very helpfull and you sound like the perfect participant!> good luck, theres a link on my sig.. start from page 1. good info, please comment on it and if you feel like its easy for beginners., this is my home method i use, whitch requires no store baught anything other than jars. Check my photo gallery for NOOB TEK cakes,, they are a great beginner cake. But, not to shed light in 1 direction..If you can afford to look for brown rice flower and some vermic,.. Then pf tek would be better suited.
See.. in my method, since the mycilium is 95% colinized when incubated.. COntam is difficult to take hold. ALso, when you add it to a fruiting chamber. use a peroxide solution, Search for that and good luck, hope you read the tek!

Optx is correct,, very difficult,, and as for whoever said they did it and ended up with contam, thats becuase the cap is high in water and creats wet spots, ripe with bacterias.. However.. If you view noob tek.. youlle see it is contam resistant. Due to the fact the myc already has hold of the substrate of poo,, and can be exposed to air at any time once in a clean environment.
