Because they are all the same species.

exactly like mikeownow said, they're the same species. we have black people and white people and asian people, and we all look different, but there's no mistaking a human for an elephant.
and yeah, they vary in other ways like speed, yield, and potency (doges flames since its been said so many times they dont)... nobody will deny some strains are more agressive colonizers than others, or that some grow many small mushrooms where others grow fewer large ones, some abort more than others, some have heavier spore deposits than others.... as for the potency matter, i'm sure it varies between strains, but the difference is so small we can effectively say "no, they're the same" - what you grow on and the conditions which you grow effect potency WAY more than small genetic differences, so its not even worth considering when choosing a strain to grow. even if it did matter, never has there been a controlled scientific study between strains to even get a hint at what differences there might be, so your guess is as good as anybodies, and personal preference plays a role

There are several strains that look different than others.
Yes there are some that colonize faster than others...
and yes there are some that fruit faster than others too.

they are all part of the same species. strain is a subsection of the species. it's like watermellons, watermellons come in differant forms like an icebox watermellon compared to the ones you would buy in a store. icebox watermellons are watermellons but they are a differant strain that are smaller and fit in an icebox better than a huge one you would get from the store.
take roses as another example. roses are all from the same species but slight variations like color and size differ. you might have reds and someone else preffer the orange or white. same species differant strain.
with mushies you have strains like cambodian that colonize fast and fruit big. where as ban phang ka and some other thai strains have very small caps but colonize fast as hell. again just a slight variation from strain to strain but of the same species.
hope this helped. ~thenewguy
