Tonight's Red Sox vs. Yankees.... A Question.
    #5578213 - 05/01/06 05:40 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I missed the first half of the first inning... Did Johnny Damon come up to bat?

If so, was he booed or cheered?

I have $100 riding on it.

Thanks in advance.

Booed, even when he tried to convince the crowd to cheer for him by stepping out of the batters box and tipping his helmet a few times to the fans.  Then they threw money at him when he took his position in center field.

Eh...I have mixed feelings on it.

If someone offered you an additional 3 million dollars a year to play for a different team, should you turn it down because of a rivalry?

I mean, it's business, right?  They're employees, as well as athletes.

That being said, I probably would have booed him, if for no other reason, him specifically saying "I will never play for the New York Yankees"

If I were him, making the kind of money he was making with the Red Sox, what, $11,000,000 a year?

I wouldn't see a need for a net of 1.5 million more to move to the rival team when I had helped the Red Sox win the world series!

He's a friggin' greedy sell-out!

I hope he breaks a wrist or tears a rotator cuff and goes on the DL for the rest of the season! The BUM!

/end rant.

The Yankees offered him $52mil over 4 yrs, we would only give him $40mil for 4 yrs.  He asked us to split the difference, and give him $46mil, and he'd stay...we wouldn't do it.  So we're talking a gross of $12mil extra over the next 4 years.  I can't say I blame him

The Sox aren't very good at keeping GOOD players around.  They never have been.  If he had been traded to the Mets, noone would give a shit.  It's just the fact that it's the Yankees, and the rivalry, which is knd of juveneille, given all that he did in Boston for the past 3 seasons.

Again, that being said...I would have booed him too, and I will, when I go to the Sox/Yanks game on the 22nd  :smirk:

I think damon sucks because he signed an agreement with some publishers to not cut his hair or shave his beard during his post-WS book tour. What a tool.

Ok. Let's put this in perspective.

I work in retail making ...oh, jack and sh*t. If someone offered me $3 million more to work at oh, say, Staples, I'd take it. But the same people calling Damon a jerk are the same people that would call me a f*cking idiot if I didn't take the Staples job.

And yes, I DO live in a Red Sox state. I wish we still had him but we don't and so I say "good luck." He's done a lot of great things for my team and he's always been a good sport. That's all I intend to ask out of the guy.

Like I said, net of 1.5 million per year more instead of 5 million a year, big whoop. I'd have stayed with my biggest fans and my favorite team rather than be so damn greedy.

I disagree... The hate is stronger because of that, but it'd be there no matter were he went for a little more money.

I have never been to a game at Fenway and I live about 20 miles from it. I'm more comfortable watching it on TV, always was. You get
to hear all the commentaries and see all the replays from every angle and in slow motion. Now that I have HDTV, it's even better...
You can almost smell the grass, not to mention that you can smoke it too.

Maybe someday I'll go to a game just to experience it, but, I can't imagine it being better.

Seconds before he smashed that homer the TV announcer said "the fans are expecting something big here" and I thought way to jinx it asshole. Then he hit it and I just knew in a millisecond that it was gone just by the way he stood at the plate looking up. It was a thing of beauty.

I was at the Athletics vs. Angels game out in LA last night. They did a poll on the jumbotron about who would win the AL East and the Yankees won out over the Red Sox and there was much booing.

I was wearing my Matsui shirt and applauded proudly.

I'll probably always do drugs, so that just contributes to the addiction to The Shroomery... It's a vicious circle of bliss. :tongue2:

Ok, Damon's a loser. He used to be one of my favorite players, but he's obviously just greedy. He's already got enough money to do whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Isn't there a point when money doesn't really matter that much anymore? Say after you've got your multi-million dollar house with just about everything you ever wanted in it, and something's you never thought about before you had money. It's sad that he went over to the evil empire just like every other player. for the money. The only player I kind-of respect on the yankee's is sheffield because he was willing to take a pay cut to stay on the team he liked, and he plays hard even if he's a little hurt. You can't compare damon the already multi millionare taking an extra 1.5 million a year to the regular joe broke-ass taking a couple extra million to work somewhere else. I'm sorry, but it's sad to see very little pride in the game anymore. It sucks almost every team just runs through players because of money issues. I can't see myself caring that much about money after already making over 5 million in my career. that's good enough

I have to admit it was a nice hit. Especially in that wind.
