I just sprinkled them on top of the soil and pressed them in. Then put a thin layer of soil on top.
They grow pretty much like tomatoes so far...

I pressed a few seeds into a jiffy pellet. They sprouted fine but then my dog jumped on top of the jiffy green house and smashed a number of diferent seedlings including the rustica.

tobacco seeds are very viable, you should have no trouble germinating them.
just sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil and water and wait. even year old seeds sprout for me with a minimum of effort.
also it doesent matter what kind of pot etc cause they stand up very well to being repotted.
id wish you good luck, but you wont need any

I see you're growing your own tobacco (which I'm also about to do) so good on you for that I was just wondering what your motivation behind cultivating your own smoke is, whether it be price of smokes; avoiding nasty chemicals; selling to friends; sheer joy, or whatever.
And also (very importantly), how are you going to go about curing and flavouring your tobacco aswell? I've read up on a few methods used for curing/flavouring and I've come up with some of my own, but I wont know for sure how well they work until I actually get to try them out

When I grew mine, I just let it dry for a couple of weeks and that was all that it seemed to need. If you smoke uncured straight up dried stuff, it is supposed to be stronger which is good for ceremonial use while lets say, doing the fungus thing or after drinking some ayahuasca.

I really want to grow it for the fact that it's an entheogen, I enjoy cultivation of it, and to sell to friends. I didn't research much about curing and what not, but I'll probably start to.

Very true! SO easy to grow.
Couple rustica Questions: My rustica plants are two feet tall, and starting to bud. Isn't it a bit early for them to flower? My echinecha, and poppies also flowered early, which is weird, cause the Echinecha was not from seed.
Anyways, I want to harvest my own rustica seeds, if I pollinate each flower with a small watercolor paint brush, or pencil tip, will they make seeds? When do you harvest seeds? Are rustica flowers pretty? A few of my rustica really grew fast, the rest are pretty small, due to a late frost cutting them back to roots. But rustica can survive a light freeze, I was amazed how many came back, after complete apparent visual death.
Also, my rustica plants have lots of holes in them, where bugs ate off the leaves. Those bugs will die no matter what right? As toxic as rustica is, I can't see how anything could survive it. It's a natural pesticide of course, but apparently some insects still dine on the leaves, only to go for a short spirit walk, and then die.
Anyone know what bugs are eating my leaves and information on early flowers?

Me too, except I made 3 jiffy pellets, with aprox. 100 seeds in each. Thinning out seedlings like that is VERY tedious, takes a gentle touch. The roots are hair thin, but transplanting them with only one set of leaves is possible, and makes for some soothing, yet sometimes tedious green thumb work.

yeah it is! and ive been having the same thing going on here with some poppies, 2 2 month old brugmansia seedlings, one at 15cm and one at 30cm and my morning glories and peppers too.
all of them are starting to flower.
as for tobacco, you want to cut the flowers off to keep the leafs good and potent, flowering takes alot out of that.

AH yeah. I'll let at least two flower though. I have about 20 plants. 3 of them are two feet tall already, and it's still spring!
If I cut the flowers, will they keep growing in veggie stage? THe rest are only 3 inches tall or so. As far as the poppies and echinecha, I am kind of glad they are flowering early. It works will with my time
