Poor man's terrarium

Outa curiosity, anybody ever make a small casing with a poor man's terrarium (the 2L soda bottle method?) I wanna give some as gifts and it seems to me it'd be a heck of a lot easier to transport if there was just a simple casing in the bottom rather than trying to carry the thing around balancing a cake in there
Idea is do do a simple verm casing, damp verm on bottom -> crumbled cake -> damp verm on top. Not looking for killer yields or anything, don't really care, as long as one or two guys pop out they'll get a kick out of watching it grow. Seems to me a soda bottle will be near impossible to sterilize, gonna try some microwaving with the verm in there and see if I end up with a melted mess or not... but thinking the cake is colonized it shouldnt be too critical. Will re-incubate for a few days before giving it away.
Just wondering if anybody has done anything like it and how it worked, or if there's a better idea to turn a cake into a self-contained portable low maintenence unit that I can give to a friend that'd be great too (Something more exciting than invitro! Seeing them all mushed up inside a jar kinda creeps me out.)

i'm pretty sure you don't need to sterelize... cut the bottle in half (where it gets wider/thiner so you can re attach it later with no taping or anything) pour some wet verm then a colonized substrate layer (that was left to sit around 12-24 hours after crumbled... you'd do better with grains then a PF i guess) and then case... you'd have to surround it with foil or something to prevent pinning on the side then leave it for a couple of days to colonize the casing and give away
BTW i've just finished a first flush using bottles as FCs and i set the cakes on a fat layer of verm... after a few days the cakes attach them selves into the verm so unless you're really rough with it you probably won't have to ballance it too much...
it's a cool present and i'm thinking about making some for my friends as well

This topic came up around november of last year as gifts to give for xmas. I'll see if I can find the thread.
*EDIT* here it is. This guy uses a big yogurt container, but it'll all work the same.
So far as sterilization though, just clean it out real good with some bleach/water, then rinse it out to make sure the bleach is all gone. Then minimize exposure to air. That should be good enough considering no one actually sterilizes a casing container... they just clean it out and disinfect real well.
