casing question?

I am toying aroung with the idea of casing a couple of my brf cakes. This is my fisrt time growing but I have enough cakes to sacrfice a couple. I was reading the teks and came across one called the easy casing method. web page It is a really short tek. My question is, do I put dry vermiculite on the bottom under the cakes or the wet vermiculite. He doesnt specify, but he does specify that the vermiculite has to be wet on top of the cakes. I am assuming you put the wet vermiculite on the bottom also. Thanks for any help

You really dont want to case with just vermiculite, you can but you will not be happy with the results. I would at lest try this one, Coir as substrate. just skip the beginning.
You would place the cake in a bag and crumble it and then mix it.

Look up "casing 101" or "casing 50/50" both of those are well done and used commonly.

Yes you can, but a case that has properly prepared layer will out preform one that dose not.

I think that I am going to use the casing 50/50. Thanks for saving me the time wasted of just using vermiculite.

Ok first question for the 50/50 mix. I was reading about sterilization and it says to use filter patch bags to put in your cooker. Do I have to use those or can I just put the mix in a couple of large quart jars and cook them? kind of in the same way I sterilized my brf jars.

i've made a verm only casing a few days ago... i hope it's gonna be at least as good as the cakes otherwise i'll be disapointed (i made a casing off of two half pint BRF cakes... the single cakes avraged 50 grams wet (even more) so i'm hoping a single casing would at least produce 100 grams wet... and i'm pretty sure it'll do even better but i'll have to wait and see)
at least with straight verm there's not much chance of contem

I just went to the local gardening store and all they had was green moss. I asked the workers if this was the same thing and they didn't know. doens anybody know if green moss is the same thing as peat moss and if it isn't will it still work? thanks
