Best way to tell the Deadly Galerina from other Psilocybe species?

I'm kind of worried about confusing the Galerina with an active mushroom, considering they look similar and im a noob. Is a spore print a definite solution to see if a mushroom is the Galerina?
Thanks

I am a noob as well, but I know that unless I am 100% positive of a strain, I will always take a spore print. (You have to wait for them to dry out anyway so whats a couple more hours of letting it release spores?)

print is rusty brown and bruising... galerina's don't bruise blue but ive gotten spores dropped onto a galerina from a cyan in the same bag and it made me look twice... then again feed one to a feral cat or another intrusive species, if it dies don't eat it

So I guess im asking, is the Galerina spore print different than all its lookalikes?

Spore print and bruising come to mind first.. there are multiple features that can be used to separate the two genera. It's best to use as many as possible. A lot of times Galerina gill color will be an rusty brown a or similar color. You should be very cautious when dealing with any mushroom that has similar color gills. Some of the galerinas bruise a darker or blackish color.. you want to be careful as to not mistake this for bluing.
Once you get an idea of what Galerinas look like in general it's easier to separate them.
Spore print is probably the most important distinguishing feature.

No sense in doing something like that, when it is easy enough to just them apart yourself with some time and patience.
Galerinas become pretty distinct if you study up on the genus some. Check out descriptions and pictures in field guides or on the internet. I see the most in the fall, but that doesn't mean some don't show up other times of year!
Just be careful and take your time.. if you have any questions or are unsure about your finds being galerina, psilocybe, etc, just post here.

The species that i have dealt with and believed to be Galerina Autumnalis have been very frail and easy to break, like flick them in your hand and if they fall apart, break, mooshy like, more galerina charecteristics, but than i have dealt with species that have been possible galerinas to be strong. but most wood dwelling psilocybes are more sturdy and strong. but by no means let that be a strong identification tool, just something ive noticed and may help.
