Six Weeks?
    #5577001 - 05/01/06 11:47 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I am planning on doing a grow using the tek described in the erowid guide. Without getting into too much detail about my situation, I will have just over six weeks in which to go from a spore print to ready-for-consumption mushrooms (after which I may need to leave town and end my project). Is there a method I can use to make sure that I will have some ready by then? I've searched the forum and found some good tips, but I want to know if I can be pretty sure that I'll have some within that time frame. A high yield is not so important to me, I would just like to have enough for one or two decent trips (although more wouldn't hurt!). What's my best bet?

Check out the suggestions in the link in my signature. Obviously you won't have a liquid culture to start from, but all of the other tips still apply and can shave time off the colonization period of your grow.

The best advice you can get right now is to study your ass off before starting anything so no surprises come up later. The closer to ideal conditions you keep the quicker things will go. Six weeks is possible but probably pushing it, especially if you're inexperienced... keep in mind, when you rush things you're most likely to screw them up. Good luck...

Yeah, your guide was one of the threads I came upon before. Thanks for writing that, seems like those tips could be helpful.

Would inoculating smaller jars (say 1/4 pint instead of 1/2) speed up the process appreciably? I don't want to ask for anything impossible, but I'd really like to be able to finish the growing in six weeks, even if it means I only get one dose worth.

pf cakes are the slowest method IME. they take a month and some change to colonize.

sounds like you want to sell them at a festival.

you need a lot of experience if you want something in that amount of time.

Is there a faster method that's as simple?

No, they're for personal use.

quarter pints will certainly go faster, but obviously produce less... probably just shy of 2 grams dry give or take.  gives ya little over 3 weeks to colonize which should be plenty for such a small jar, little under 2 weeks to pin, and a week to fruit... so its doable.  you can still go for a whole dozen of them to increase your odds if some fail, and if they all work you'll have enough for you and some friends   it would be sooo painful though to fall a little behind and have them just start pinning when your 6 weeks are up though!

grains are simply and easy, but takes a while to get use to. you can make so many more also.

i think you would be dissanpointed with the quality/potency of the Brown Rice Flour cakes.

Your best bet would be to spawn to poo...I can personally go from spore to fruit in 6 weeks spawning WBS to poo, but that would be with a strain like B+, because it is very fast, anything slower and it would be a push.

If you do straight grains you are probably gonna want to do rye berries and if you want anything in 6weeks you are probably going to have to invest in incubator supplies no matter which route you take.

You could also try making an LC and injecting into straight sterilized poo as well, but from the sounds of things that may be a little to complex for your current situation.
