UVA Technique
    #5576901 - 05/01/06 11:21 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Hi all,

My first post here at the shroomery, i have used your chat room before, some handy people there who are up on their knowledge and in the mood to help, hello terantula, i dont know if u have a summer house on the forums as well

I have been involved in growing shrooms before (psylocybin cubensis), and have picked liberty caps from the fields many times over the years, this hoever, is the first time that i have built everything for myself, without the help of the person who has been my teacher in the cultivation of shrooms, along with the other texts that i have read.

I intend to post an FAQ produced mainly by my teacher at the moment, however more is to be added to it i think before i post it in whole.

i was going to post this under advanced mycology, as it seems like a new technique to the boards, i havent seen it posted at any rate and i found nothing wit h the search function. Most of the serious mycologists i see here use an inoculation box, and spray the area with bleech or another similar solution before proceding, and spray down the rest of the surfaces.

I use a uva germicidal lamp, and i have had great results so far, cost under ten pounds to buy, and it is dangerous if used incorrectly, can blind you if you look at it, and you dontwant it exposed to your skin for hte risk of cancer.

Originally i used it on a cannabis grow, to increase THC production, however i was still using shit timers at the time (instead of my computer operated time i have now), one timer fault and light left on for an hour straight, totally killed the plant below it and cained the others, a testament to the danger involved with the light(so dont blame me if u try it and get hurt, uve been warned!!).

An interesting side effect of the light in the canna grow room was that it also acted to vastly reduce the smell, replacing it with that ozone aroma, but i digress.

Has anyone else ever used this methodology ?

sounds interesting, haven't heard of the things myself. But it seems too much danger just to be sanitary. I use lysol and a glovebox i made, only cost about $20 max, and glovebox use can't give me cancer, at least i don't think. Interesting idea, but i'd have to say there are easier/less dangerous ways to be clean.
interesting post!

Oh UVA technology is fucking awsome !! Imagine, being able to simulate the light and radiation from the sun and use it for a practical end like sterilizing surfaces and tools!! Brilliant...

Of coarse, with any powerfull tool, there is risk of some serious damage. Ever hear of people getting cancer from living near high voltage electrical stations?? This would worry me.

Now, although I thought of this also for use in Mycological research, I learned it was more usefull in hospitals and such where sterility is a much more serious concern. Though, I do recamend any one to invest in a UV Air purifier, which sounds excellent. I really want to buy one, but sadly, there doesnt seem to be any good conventional models sold this side of the atlantic.

Welcome around Atemi...Shroomery is the best !!!

perhaps i should expound, the lights are dangerous, but so is a lighter is the hands of an idiot lol if you wear clothes, gloves and a welding mask you will be safe. Plus the whole chamber is coverd in an air proof and uva dampening plastic layer, really like all things that arent totally safe, it is perfectly safe in the hands of an operator who knows the risks and takes the appropriate steps to counteract them.

Hmm why does it say im replying to wrong post, hmm im gettin the newbie forum jitters lol, im sure ill get it.

ok so if you're using this in a sealed chamber of sorts, care to explain how your mushroom spores are going to survive while you're working with it?

good question creamcorn  the thin clingfilm plastic layer dampens the uva, the think plastic of the syringe blocks it  the light is turned off during inoculation itself, just used before hand to clean the air, and through rotation of the tools, clean them as well.

yeah that's what i assumed. idk if you just use it to clean the area and the tools then turn it off for innoc etc, it would be rather safe, with the proper precautions. But i do so much like stepping straight out of the shower and innocing naked and sueaky clean, it's so much more mystical hehe.

this definatly does sound interesting. i'll do a little more research, might be goot for my glovebox...
