Question: Chew or Swallow?

Does chewing mushrooms allow for any difference in absorption of psilocybin from just plain swallowing them? Sorry if this has been asked before, but my searching didn't turn up much.

Would chewing enhance the effect at all? Speed it up? Slow it down? I can handle the taste, I'm just curious if I should bother.
Edit : "Chewing the mushrooms for about ten minutes in your mouth enables the psilocybin and its analogues to enter the brain faster -- if the mushrooms are immediately swallowed, it may take as long as 1 hour for the first effects to set in."
It was right there in the FAQ! Sorry for asking guys, my bad.

I don't tend to chew because I can't stand the taste but a friend of mine likes the taste and always chews them up as much as he can (until they have basically disolved in his mouth)... once he was eating fresh shrooms and he chewed them so much that his teeth were blue. For him this results in the effects start kicking in very quickly... usualy within 20 minutes of eating them. Other than the effects starting quicker everything else seems to be normal.

What BMarts said. It'll definitely bring you up faster, as your brain will already be signaled of the entrance of psilocybin that way
And maybe that converts it to psilocin earlier ? Which would explain the quicker come up.
The more you chew it, the easier it is for your stomach to digest it as well, which would also make for somewhat less nausea and discomfort(in my experience) ... that's assuming you like the taste!

If you chew it up well, then all the parts of the mushrooms are exposed to your digestive fluids, and thus, digestion begins sooner. If you don't chew them up well, then you have to wait for your stomach acids to dissolve the fungus before it can begin extracting the psilocin/psilocybin.
It's just a matter of speed-of-digestion. And also, chewing well SIGNIFICANTLY decreases nausea! It may or may not speed up the effects, but in my experience it always kicks in quicker and harder when they are chewed up well, or powderized in capsules.

Damn, dr0mi beat me to it. Basically yeah, increased surface area = faster digestion. Is there any possibility of psilocybin being extracted into the saliva and absorbed through the mouth in small amounts? What causes that innitial 'buzz' some people feel just after dosing? (before they have reached the stomache).

I don't know if I've ever read about this, but does anyone else's teeth tingle weird while their tripping? I've gotten the little bits stuck in my teeth and then gotten some strange nerve feelings afterwards.
I don't chew them anymore, I crush or grind, then make tea or just swallow.

The longer you chew and suck on them, the quicker the trip will hit you. I prefer to grind them then put them into tea, kicks in just as quick as if you check and suck on them, but not such a bad taste.

What a fucking stupid question threadmaker.
If you know elementary school science you know the answer to the question at hand, unless you think your stomach can chew food.

Sorry, just thought I would put that statement out there for everyone to bitch about. Its a stupid question though. Your average non-drug-taking joe would know the answer to that one.
I mean, its not too stupid. The answers that the thread yielded were cool....
The whole holding it in your mouth thing etc.............
