I have no idea if this is a fake picture or what. I've never heard of such a mushroom. Here's the link: http://www.earthlanguage.org/mininews/0905/0905-t.htm

The purple is from their camara.....thats Amanita muscaria.....which is red to orange to yellow to sometimes almost white.....the mushroom pic next to it on the wesite is almost completely surrounded by the same purple color as is the museum the same purple, and the weird ball thing in the tree......the same purple color.....even the rocky cliffs below the snow.....and the one where almost the whole pic is a big blurry blob of ........the same........you know what........and the bird shot is just one shade of the same.......................

Remember that photoshopped amanita photo that someone posted a while ago that made them look sky blue?
A bunch of people actually believed it was real too.

YAY! finally a pic of a purple Amanita! When I first started mushroom hunting I came across one of these suckers; also it was more lavender in color and although mature was slightly younger then this one. I did not have the heart to pick it, because it was so beautiful. And I kick myself all the time for not having my camera on me, because I never saw another one like it again. It has been 4... perhaps 5 years now, and I visit the same spot every year to see if I could be lucky to see another one. I had no idea when I laid eyes on it, that there was no record in the books on them. There's tons of red, yellow, cinnamon, and brown ones, but not purple. Also, I would like to note the habitat that it was growing under. The one purple Amanita that I saw was growing with other (and lots of) Lemon Amanita under a fur tree within a redwood grove. I usually and now a days find muscaria under pine trees with there acidic soil... but well there it was. The fur and redwood Forrest floor was covered mostly in moss and woodland grasses. This was in Salt Point State Park in California.... on a free/sorta well hiked trail off hwy 101 (eastern side of hwy)... I am a little nervous of giving away the exact location, because sometimes people suck! *** If you pack it in, pack it out/leave now trace. *** If your going to go mushroom hunting use a basket to help spread spores, and if you come across a great grove for mushroom picking, don't pick every single one that you find... leave some to spore! Cheers, I hope more pics & perhaps some good research for these rarities start to show up more now
