Replacing laptop cpu fan**need help finding new one**
    #5561310 - 04/27/06 12:36 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I have a hp pavilion ze4420us laptop computer and the CPU fan has completely quit working, so when using the laptop for longer than 2 or so minutes, it gets windows BSOD, to make things short, i need to replace the fan. The problem is i cannot figure out how to get the damn thing apart, i have taken all of the screws out of the bottom and it seems to be hung somewhere in the middle. All the sides all the way around can open up a centimeter or more, any suggestion? I cannot find a how to on hp's site or anywhere, if someone could find one it would be awesome

peace

edit: added that i need to find the fan for sale somewhers

There's a section on "Removing the Heat Sink (with fan)" on page 67 in this manual. Maybe it'll help, at least your model is listed on the first page.

A quick Google search turned up a bunch of places selling that part. Looks like you can't buy the fan seperately (this isn't uncommon on laptops). You'll pay around $50 for a used fan with heatsink. Maybe also try this auction, it's cheap and ending soon.

Also I wouldn't recommend using the laptop at all until you get this replaced.

badass ythan, thanks, i found all the ones in google, 50 used, or 100 new, but that is outrageous, the heatsink is just fine, the stupid fan just stopped working, and i also know not to use it till i replace it, the laptop is in about 10 pieces anyways. I cant believe that a fan only cannot be found, what a waste....

peace
