How do I know if my perlite is wet enough?

How do I know if my perlite is wet enough? I a whole bag of it in a pillow case and I dumped about 16 cups of water (10% H2O2) in there. I waited until the pillowcase wasn't dripping too much water and I dumped all of it into my 10 gallon fish aquarium.
I have an aquarium lid over that. How will I know when it is time to add more water?
Peace, Persnicket

you really should invest in a hygrometer if you haven't already so you can monitor your RH. when the RH drops its time to add water and/or mist. you can have a tiny bit of standing water at the bottom to lessen the frequency you need to refill, but don't overdo it, because that will render the perlite ineffective. make sure you have a good 2+ inches of perlite above any standing water.

hydrometers suck for the msot part they break and are a waste of money if your using perlite. for a martha or something along those linesi see teh use but for smaller grows theres no need. that money could be better spent elsewhere.

i got a $15 one off ebay a while back that proved to be pretty accurate via the salt test, hasn't broken, and doesn't suck. proved to be a great tool when starting out to get a feel for things. perlite is pretty fool proof, if used correctly, but there's always that doubt "am i doing this right?" was well worth the peace of mind for the reassurance.

The tek calls for 2 ins of perlite and 1 in of water. You will be able to see the water standing. I also screen out the fine dust( do this outside ) I found this made it wicker better.

No standing water, regardless of what the tek says. Standing water lowers humidity. Drain fully, then put the perlite in your terrarium. That will deliver the highest possible humidity. RR
