The Lowes/Home Depot/wherever Find Thread
    #5574079 - 04/30/06 01:28 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

This is a thread for you to post all of your finds from Home Depot or Lowes or wherver.

Yesterday I went to Home Depot and picked up 3 cacti in one pot for 25 dollars. Pristine condition, they were 3 Trichocereus pachanoi. How large you ask? 15", 15", and 21". I told my mom that I had 56 total inches of cacti (I have a 5 inch cutting), and she told me that "only a man would care about that", and we went into a wierd discussion with cactus innuendo...

Besides the 2 stores listed above, every other department store in which I have found cacti, Walmart, Kmart, Meijers, have the same tag on the package, "grown by/for Sorensen Greenhouses Inc., Ruthaven, Ont".

I have not been able to determine if this grower carries Trichos of any type.

Maybe we have a member near there who could find out for us.

Thanks, I had a feeling that Wally might carry them, because they carry everything from white socks to black people. But I didn't want to go into a huge list, so I remembered where I got mine, and some other people got theirs, and chose Home Depot and Lowes.
Anyone else care to share their successes at non-cactus specialty stores?

I can't say. All I have ever found in these stores are NOT trichos.

Yea, I have never had any luck either. The closest things ive found at Home Depot (which seems to have the best selection in my area) is a Argeninian Torch and a Trichocereus Grandiflorus (which I did end up buying because it looks like it will bloom nicely and was only $2)

smart move, regardless of if it fucks you up.

I should make some more generic threads.
Remember, this is a thread for posting your experiences at non-cacti places, people. I know some of you have had success!

Even though all those cacti have active constitutes doesnt mean that they are wurth the time and effort for consumption, though they do make for an awesome collection!

....Post in my other thread, por favor.

But not all of them, seeing as how I am guessing that although they may all be active, many of them are in such low percentages as to make any attempt at an extraction or straight consumption would be wasteful of energy and resources and time.

I didnt find any mature cacti for 16 dopllars at HD, because they only sold them in a minimum of 3 per container
That seriously sucks, you guys, sorry to hear that your cactus selections are piss. I'd offer to ship you some cacti from out Home Depots, but shipping would run you a bitch, so that wouldn't work. They had about 5 different pots of mature San Pedros, and the one I got was in great condition, so iunno. Meybe they stock you guys poorly for some reason?

How big are they, what did it cost you?
Was it labeled as Trichocereus pachanoi "San Pedro"?

Fuck you, that has to be a lie.

*edit* in the event that it isn't, and there is no federal law disallowing it that cali just ignored, would it go against shroomery rules if I were to ask to purchase a sample of said cactus from you?

100% honesty here: I don't want to use it to get high. I am putting up a cactus garden and REALLY wanted some lophos, but thought that they were all illegal. And as you can see by my current discussions on other things I am growing, I like to abide by the law.

I was hoping that this thread might initiate some nice little things like that. "you live there and found some? wanna help me out?"
And 10 years down the line, when you are both best friends, you will look back and remember that my thread brought you that happiness.

Nice. Probably few if any active cacti, but a bunch of great cacti, none the less. Lotta variety that way, too.

Nothing notably active.

I don't know the name of the 3rd one, but I know if is a euphorbia. The spikes poke the opposite arms and you get lots of white blood.

yup. I have two euphorbias (same kind) that I bought a while ago. Well, there is the main one and a smaller (but still 1" tall) one at the corner of the pot. The pot is a 3" by 3" by4" square, and the spines are long. So both euphorbias are scared where they are touching.

The Lowes that I found those in is close to the GA/FL line in Thomasville . There is still one more left. It's the first time I've found an active species locally.

The Lowes near me had very little cacti/succulents, most of which looked pretty poor and were in the shade, go figure. Home Depot had no cacti/succulents whatsoever. I did however find a healthy Aloe Vera plant. I guess I'll need to buy some new pots and take cuttings of those.

I have tripped off Home Depot-bought san pedro.  Tripped nice and hard too.

Best deal I've gotten was from an independent garden.  I was on my way to a skatepark in a city I'd never been to before, and I spotted some pedros through the fense.  Four cactuses, ranging from 1'-2', in the same pot, cost me 12 bucks!  One of the mexican workers gave me a knowing look as I was carrying the pot to my car "those are beatiful cactuses you bought."  He knew, and he knew I knew, the true value of those things

Last year i found three pedro's all over a meter tall in one pot at wal-mart and it was priced at $60. Should have bought it that day. When i went back the next week an employee told me it had been knocked over, broken to shit, and tossed. I've been kicking myself ever since...tragic.
