Police etiquette.

Last night I got picked up by the cops while drunk as fuck and they drove me home (score) a couple of miles that I'd have had to bike if not picked up.
I didn't resist (lol, this was the first time I didn't resist) detainment and was very polite to them. They commented on how cooperative I was and that's probably why they didn't get bugged out when they noticed the bongs in my living room when they verified where I lived (unless they are writing a search warrant right now ).
Anyways, moral of the story is...If you happen to get involved with the police, be courteous to them and show them respect and the outcome of your dealings with them will be more positive than if you act like a giant asshole.

I'll second that one - it's amazing how far a little courtesy can go when dealing with the cops.
Granted, you'll run into a real asshole cop sometimes, just like you'll run into regular joe assholes sometimes.
But for the ones who are just out doing their job, some meekness and courtesy go a long long way!

Definitely... you gotta figure, they're dealing with crackheads, violent drunks, punk-ass kids and shady thugs all day. It's gotta be nice to have someone treat you with dignity and respect for a change. I doubt it'll get you out of trouble if you're driving with a decapitated body in the passenger seat, but it's saved me from a few traffic and misdemeanor possession tickets. A self-deprecating sense of humor has never failed me. It shows the cop that you're relaxed and have nothing to hide, but you don't risk offending him.

It sounds to me like the ones you encountered, were well seasoned officers. I think the punk cops seem to be rookies, who are new to having any power.

My friends changed the sign on a store to say "Penis on Tits" and then the cops show up and make them change the sign back to what it was and then dropped them off at my friends house. One of the dudes had a bubbler in his pocket but he refused the search and surprisingly the cops still dropped them off.

I had a run in with the cops not to long ago at the beach. Me and a friend met some girls down there, so we were at his beach house drinking and we decided to bring some beers down the the beach. As we were walking across the street to the beach entrance a cop skidded into a drive way jumped out of the car and was like "FREEZE, DON'T EVEN TRY TO RUN, I WILL TACKLE YOUR ASS". I was did the normal yes sir.
After a minute he just told us to pour the beers out and go back to the house and I quote "Get shitfaced"

once i was stealing wifi down the street from my friends house, i had just moved back into town and still had lots of stuff with me that i shuldnt have had...
anyhow a cop saw me back up to get a better signal, and as it was garbage day, he thought i was stealing garbage for identity theft.
there were 3 squads and i was getting searched infront of 3 officers, i had valiums and a fake id on me which i smoothly moved around while they were patting me down.
anyhow there was a roach in my car still, and they wanted to search it to verify that i didnt have any identity theft shit in there. they said if there was any little weed in there they would let it slide. i didnt believe them and denied them permission to search.
they threw me in the back of the squad, and searched anyways. they didnt find any id theft shit, but did find a roach.
however the cop was actually a man of his word and let me go, no ticket no nothing, probably beacuse he knew that a search wouldnt have held up in court, but i was cool with them and they were cool with me.
and i have also had theh cops come by to my place 3 times in one night for noise, we were always cool with them and i never got busted. not to say that they didnt kick everyone out of my place several times!

don't you mean a complete 180? a 360 is just back where you started .
I have some really immature friends who call all cops pigs and get upset at them for doing their jobs and are just overall unpleasant.
I like most cops, they are people too. Sure, some can be major league pricks who are power-absorbed, but if you are nice, a lot of them are friendly too.

One time a cop caught me with an old stag (i don't drink) in my glove box and a little bit of weed on my center console, he ended up giving my a ticket for the reason he pulled me over, not having a front license plate. I told him I had two dead bodies in my trunk, it was pretty funny. I always tell cops that I have some incredible number of dead/severed things on me and they usually laugh about it.

See I'd be worried he'd be like, "dead bodies eh? We're gonna have to take a look then..." And then he'd really find my dead bodies.

Dewd, that's what they call it "common courtesy".
Cops don't have to do something nice for me to respect them. Hell, when I walk down town and see all the jib heads they have to deal with, I almost want to buy them a coffee. Too many people are quick to be cop haters just because they do drugs or psychedelics. Lots of them aren't really dicks, especially when they're off duty.
Sounds like a chill guy. It just so happens that his profession is being a leo.... nothing too profound, imo. I suppose that it might be because I live in Canada and our municipalities actually hire our RCMP, so things are a little different. But I'm guessing that in a city like Metropolis, it's going to be a lot different than a Canadian town with less than 150,000 Canadian dudes and dudettes.
What I personally think is raelly cool when you're smoking a joint, run into a cop who'll talk to you for a moment and just walk away while it's still burning in your hand. Now THAT'S a cop story worth talking about, mang. Another time I almost tried to score a ride from a cop because I was messed up. He was a nice guy but talking to him really grounded me, I became sane again (still high and drunk) and really appreciated walking home instead. I feel comfortable knowing that there's cops around, up until the point where you see 5 or 6 cars and you're doing something shady.

My father work for the city utilities so i got to know cops before i started to doing things that got you in trouble. I respect that they do a job that I would not want to do, to many crazies in this world for that to be a safe job. I know cops who are cool, as long as you do it in your home and not being a butthole or endangering anyone else they care less, but I have also run into the ones who think it is thier job to fallow the rules to the utmost and have no inner sight or freewill. They seem to have to prove something to themselves i guess, probly bullies in highschool as well.

Nothing wrong with being polite. It's when you run into a cop that will railroad you if you are. There is a nice thin line between being cooperative and giving up your rights.

ive found carrying a box of jelly or glazed dunkin' donuts in your passenger seat will make the cop overlook a simple traffic citation if you offer to share.

As far as I'm concerned cops become pricks as soon as they apply to the police academy.
They already know that the job requires them to arrest peaceful drug users, so it's a job any decent human being with morals would refuse.

That's a bit of a stretch of things. There is clearly a need for a police force of some kind. Arresting drug users is a clear violation of freedom, but at the same time, it would be possible to become a police officer because you believe that protecting people from murderers and rapists was worth the price of violating the freedom of some drug users.
I'm not saying that I subscribe to that argument, but rather that doing so would not make a person morally corrupt

then again sometimes they are just in a bad mood...... Maybe he got layed before he pulled you over.
All cops want from a person is honesty. I tell them the truth! I ask them polite questions about the reasons of my being pulled over.
They ask me if i am drinking and i tell them i drank six or so beers but you know what i started around 7 and i been sipping them slowly ever our and a half or so i get a new one. Because i dont want to get overly intoxicated.
They like that along with being forth coming and truthfull. Not to mention speaking lucidly.

police are people too. They do a highly necessary job for very little pay, despite huge personal risks. Disrespect shitty people and shitty governments if you must, but don't disrespect the police unless you are absolutely sure they deserve it, which most of them don't.
