No, it will most definately contaminate. Casing mixes are not sterile and are on the top of the bulk substrate where they are exposed to contaminants. Jars of brf or rye, popcorn, etc., must be kept sterile. You can't take a piece of dirty casing material and drop it into a grain jar. RR

RR,
I have about 5 books on mushrooms. One tells me about taking the top of the cap, peeling off the skin, taking the inside of the cap since its sterile, doing some shit with iodine, and using that culture to colinize.. have you or anyone else heard or tried this?

yes its called 'cloning'. the key point you put in what peel the skin off. all the contams would be on the outside if you are suing fleash from the inside you won't have contamination problems. this must be done in a glove box or under a flowhood though. you can even just wipe the outside of a mushroom with alcohol then jab it with a syringeand break the bit off. now you can inject the syringe into an lc jar and start a clone of LC. this again has to be done under sterile conditions.

and what about to use a casing to colonize a pasteurized substrate like h/poo or compost???

it works but if you have used it for repeated flushes the mycelium gets tired and has trouble colonizing and fightng off contams. the more flushes you have done teh weaker it gets. this is also why casings contaminte in later flushes, the later the flush the more risk.
