I just got two Cerwin-Vega E712's. They each handle 200 watts. They are about 3 1/2 feet tall, 1 foot wide, and 1 foot deep. If you're looking for speakers check these out.

Unless C-V has radically changed their drivers in the last five years, you could do a lot better. C-V make great speakers for bars and discos (because they are quite efficient), but they have traditionally always been harsh and zingy. That's no problem if you're listening to nothing but dance music or electronica, but if your taste runs to vocals (especially female vocals), piano, and strings you'll soon find C-Vs pretty annoying.
For booming bass and glass-shattering highs, buy C-Vs, by all means. Just don't listen to any classical or acoustic music.

my brother picked up a pair of 10's for the home sterio, and we used to play the playstation through it, we had the game "nightmare creatures" where there are parts where it rumbles, and the roof starts to cave in... anyway, my mom and uncle and some people were outside in the pool, about a hundred yards away when we were playing it one day, and they came in later and said "hey, did you guys hear that thunder on the other side of the mountain?" (we were in a direct path to one of those mountains of riverside)
i've always enjoyed those speakers... they've always sounded great for metal, and such, as well as listening to the dead. nice and crisp. (i think he has the RE series)...
he picked up some 6 1/2"s from best buy for $30, floor model, and i have those in my room. they bump pretty damn good, but not as good as the 10's, obviously... it's also on a lower quality reciever.
my uncle had a vw bug years ago, and his sterio was the loudest and clearest you'd ever hear (c. 1990) rollin around town bumpin dopeman and the like. turns out he had 2 10" vegas in the back. he claims that it was the seperate eq that made the difference, which is why it's hard to get a system that compares to what he had. (yea, he had an alpine)

I tend to agree with Phred. I have a 15' 300 (maybe 400) watt cerwin vega as a subwoofer in my home theatre setup. It has tremendous power and feels like it'll cave in your chest. From what I've read however, you can get much "tighter" and nicer bass from other brands. A lot of audiophiles say vegas are for kids who want attention. Dunno if it's true but I think my next sub will be a tad smaller.

that reminds me, he went over to a guy's house who had some 15's, and my cousin and he both agreed they didnt sound nearly as good as the 10's... there was just too much bass.

What did those set you back? I just picked up some small rear and a center JBL speaker package. Off of CraigsList.

They sound good to me.
Although the acoustics in my living room are a little goofy though.

I sold stereo for a living back in the early Eighties. The thing is, unless a speaker is really sub par, almost any speaker in the $400 a pair range can sound okay -- in isolation. But if you were to line up three or four different makes of speaker in a level-matched switching system and "A-B" the different pairs one at a time, the differences between them are immediately apparent, especially using demanding music such as orchestral, piano, strings, or female vocals. It takes no time at all to pick out the worst of the batch, and very little more time to arrive at the top one (or at most, top two).
However -- as I was careful to point out earlier -- what I personally view as a deficiency in the Cerwin-Vega sound (artificially boosted and booming bass combined with harsh midrange and zingy highs), afficianados of the death metal, dance music, rap and techno genres might see as a plus. There's no doubt at all that Cerwin-Vegas put out a LOT of sound with relatively low powered amplifiers. You don't need 500 watts per side to shake the rafters. Hell, you don't even need 100 watts a side to earn the undying hatred of your neighbors.
If you've never been to a decent stereo store with a well designed listening room and properly calibrated A-B speaker switching system, you should give yourself a treat someday and search one out. Most of them will even let you bring your own speakers with you and hook them into the switcher. It's a real eye-opener (or ear-opener, more properly), believe me.
What C-Vs do well, they do quite well. I'm just saying that for the same money there are quite a few other brands that will handily outdo them in pretty much all aspects other than efficiency. Advent AS2 spring to mind immediately and they're even less expensive than the C-Vs.

The store I was at had the ability to switch between speakers. I tried out some KLH's, JVC's, Sony's, and Vegas. The Vegas completely blew away the other speakers. They were definately the best in the store. It is quite possible that other speakers of similar price are better though.
