Rolling cakes AFTER 1st flush...?
    #5568678 - 04/28/06 09:50 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I didn't roll my cakes in vermiculite prior to putting them in the FC after colonization. But I did dunk them. I got a pretty shitty first flush on a couple of the cakes.. like 2-3 mushrooms less than 2 inches long when picked, and a bunch of aborts. I was thining about rolling the cake in verm (afer dunking it). Is this okay to do, even after the 1st flush? thx

Yes you can and it will help some with that low yield. But if quantity is what you want you should crumble and case. Cakes yield decent flushes--and casings can produce many times more. But the more you learn the better your successes. GL.

I would actually recommend doing this. Rolling in vermiculite after subsequent flushes seems to help with the surface damage done by removing fruit.
