hi , can someone please give me some info on identifying gold caps in new zealand , some people call psilocybe cubensis gold caps , but i think in NZ there is a different species which are nick named gold caps. I think i have found some , but im not too sure and i dont have a camera.
the caps are gold , they have a veil thats removed easily , a very small nipple , some have what appears to be none , the caps are slightly conical , there sticky when there wet , hollow stem , looks like a dirty white color , the cap seems to be see through sometimes , the gills are browny white.
any idea of what these shrooms are would be a great help.

us Kiwi's have a broad definition of what a "blue meanie" is, also Gold Caps, which were origionally named after Copelandia Cyanscens.
Psilocybe Subaeruginosa has adopted the common "blue meanie" name, as well as it being called Gold caps/tops by most of my mates here in auckland, the species is very varied, the details you provided are on par with a Sub, however you mentioned nothing of a blueing effect; as Subaeruginosa certainly have an intense bluing effect only after a couple of minutes to 10 minutes after picking, mainly at the base of the stem where you had hopefully cut it off from the substrate/myceilium.
if the stem has a rusty/orange stain after picking and no noticable bluing what so ever, then i would prefer to stay away from consuming this particular shroom, as the Stropharia genus have many look-a-like Sub counterparts, which have fooled me at times, (Subs also grow very close, in singles/colonies around Stropharia and also Galarina(s) , so please be careful
The bluing is not what you should base your ID on however, so just take my advice as another grain of salt, until better verified
This picture is one of what I took only a day or so ago with my poor Cellphone cam, so its not the best, but if you notice the dark stain on the stem which looks black to me, was a dark(very) blue stain.
notice the one upside down on the table near my thumb... the stem is almost completely blue stained. creamy gill color(not yellow!) , caramel caps/goldish... (try to get a picture.. better than mine if possible)
Have a nice day!

Those shrooms you speak of sound like trouble and nothing you want to be messing with. Check the first or second post in this forum, provide as much detail as requested and see if someone is will to offer you a potential ID based on the information you provided.

some of the smaller mushrooms are nearly completley blue in the caps , some biggers ones are blue around the edges of the caps , there not all very big though , i also have a freind who has identifyed them as gold caps , but dont know if he knows what hes talking about.
my ones look very similar to those ones , but the stems are different , there alot skinnier , and i can nearly wrap it around my finger without it snapping , dont know if that means anything..

What medium was it/they growing in? What area of NZ are you in?
I find many "fat" and "skinny" stems alike, the bluing effect how you describe it, sounds promising, and is a near dead- give away depending on the similarities on your shroom to the many Sub pictures out there and on this forum alone. The stem on the Sub's I find in particular (if not covered in dirt) are an intense white which go a nice deep colored blue, after picking and while growing, very distinct compared to the many species of Stropharia and Galarinas ive found
There are many look-a-likes, take a spore print by taking off the cap (one that looks healthy..) carefully and lying it on a white peice of paper, under a jar for about an hour or two (leave it overnight if possible) If it has a dark purple/black print you can be almost sure that what you have is a
Have a read-up on Psilocybe Subaeruginosa and its variants, that should help you learn how to ID them next time, the potency of them are

Do Psilocybe subaeruginosa have an annulus? There are lots of LBMs with an annulus that are nothing for bad news to the suspecting and unsuspecting liver/kidneys. Does your specimens have a seperable pelicule from the cap? What color are the spore prints?

P. Subaeruginosa do not have an annulus/veil remnant. That is a very important observation that one should make when hunting them. If you are inexperienced its something to keep an eye out for, because mushrooms such as Galerina's have a very prominent veil remnant whereas subs dont.

There're dozens of species in the Galerina genus that don't have a veil (EDIT: an annulus)......not to mention Tubarias etc.......and veils can easily disappear or fall off for various reasons.....
