How can you tell when a mushy has not been dried out fast enough and starts too rot ? Does it smell or change colors or anything ?

it gets mushy brown and taste absolutely horrible, but the only reason they would rot is if you put them in some kind of container or something, if you get them and just put them on a piece of paper in the open they will dry fine within about 36 hours,

holes will start to form throughout the cap. It will look like you dropped some HCl on it and its eating away. No smell in FOAF's experience, nothing that stands out anyway.

Cut open a stem lengthwise and look at the center. If it is black and slimey you have rot. My friend claims that when she got rotten fruit they smelled pretty rank as well... If you want to see for yourself what it looks/smells like, put a single fresh fruitbody in a zip-lock bag and leave it on the counter for a few days.

Yo Crispy......... I`ve had that problem with trying to dry to many shrooms in my dessicant chamber. Fan drying is the key before placing in your chamber. In fact I split my shrooms lengthwise with a knife and they dry WAY faster.Fan dry about 12 hour at least...then in your chamber for a day or 2... they will be pretty dry with the fan and the chamber will get them cracker dry. I think the potency stays better the faster they dry too. Fruits getting mushy on you is not a good thing....hope this helps
