Glorious Day!
    #556707 - 02/19/02 08:05 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

Hey Y'all!
Today a small triumph, tiny mushies 2 mm tall. Tiny cute babies that make me proud to be a fungus mom! Only 2 cakes that have been in the terrarium for 12 days are the ones pinning now. I hope to see others begin in the next 4 days. (Other cakes were birthed 4 days after the first 2) How quickly will the babies grow? It is likely they will grow more slowly than normal as this batch is B+ and has not broken any speed records thus far. Does it typically take 2 weeks to go from 2mm size to harvest size? I don't really know what to expect, the information I've read hasn't been helpful to me. Any suggestions would be helpful, but I know the mushies will just take their time:).

once you see pins you should have mature fruits in about a week. they grow real fast after they pin. You can look at em then come back a few hours later and see a difference.

Excellent! This is very exciting! Yes, I can tell that the growth is very rapid, they look twice as big as this morning. The mushroom is truly an amazing resident of our planet.

awww thanks WakingUpLate! I am happy that my first try is coming around OK. I'd heard about others having much trouble and failing a few times, but so far so good.
Why does a cake begin to fruit from the bottom usually first? I'm guessing it has to do with moisture(cakes sit in simulated "casing" of verm filled jar lid), but this may not be the case.
It is simply amazing how fast they now grow! It seems every 6-9 hrs. they double in size, is this accurate or am I exaggerating?
These little guys are very rewarding just to witness the growth process...reminds me of my 4-H days, cept this time the goal is Hyperspace............:)
