Ryche Hawk's wbs tech.... question

So I steeped it(soaked it for an hour), pc'd 45 min.... So then, after the fact, I read that if you don't steep it for 24 hours to germinate the endospores w/in the seeds then you'll get these bugs.

was my 45 minute soak long enough along with the the PCing????

Did you soak or steep? I think you've got your terms mixed up. They are not interchangable. You soak at room temps. You steep in "coffee hot" water. You would never want to steep grain for 24 hours. What bugs are you referring to? Up your PC time to at least 60 minutes @ 15 psi. :confused:

ah ok, I soaked them in hot water/boiling almost(steep)..    In the Ryche Hawk tek page, one of the guys that responded said when he didn't steep the seeds that there were endospores that survived the pc and spawned flies.

I got you now. Yes, a 45 min steep should be plenty. That's usually how long I steep mine, or until just a few of the smaller millet grains explode. Endospores are bacterial, not insect. There is no way insect eggs/larvae could survive a proper PCing. I skip the 24 hour presoak, steep my grain, and PC for 90 mins @ 15 psi, and I never have any problems with contams. Hope that helps.

With just a 45min steep, id be worried more on water content. A 12-24hour soak in luke warm/room temp. water will solve most bacterial issues as well as fully hydrate the grains. If you fail this round, next time soak over night. G/L
