I've read reports of people shaking throughout colonization (50 and 75%) and conflicting reports saying only to shake right after inoculation. What do you guys think? Also, is it bad to shake if you have a polyfil lid? Is it bad for the polyfil to get wet with your inoculation fluid? (LC)

shake em... i use LC to inoculate so i shake from day one. shake them once a day for about 4-5 days (wbs) till everything has myc on it. then i let it just grow and don't bother shaking cause its all over everything

if you use a decent amount of spore syringe or LC then an initial shake should be enough. if you keep shakeing then you are breaking up myc networks and they have to repair wasteing time and energy. its best to get the lc or spores dispersed right away then you never have to break the network but also it starts out conolizing all over teh jar beucase of the shake

Shaking everyday is counterproductive. Let your poor mycelium recover and grow. With popcorn, the kernels are so large, there is not much surface area there to colonize, so the jars get done in a week to ten days. Shake at initial inoculation, then don't shake again. With rye, you will gain ground by shaking once at about 25 to 35 percent colonization. I saw no such benefit with popcorn. RR

in my experiences with popcorn, i shaked right after inoculation and right around 30% colonization. although it does take a day or two for the mycelium to recover, the jars that were shaken at 30% still colonized faster. if you are going to shake your jars, make sure you do it well and spread the colonizing kernals throughout the whole jar. see what works in your own experiences though.
