ok i would like to have a high success ratio. lets see if i got this right. i have a seedling heat mat, seedling tray, cacti soil humidity dome. will i need a fungicide (if so any recommendations and teks would be greatly appreciated)? ok im going to use oven bags to sterilize my moistened soil. how long do you guys cook the soil for and what temp(is longer better)? next i will let soil cool and fill some 4in square pots. no this is were i get confused, so i sterilized the soil when it gets exposed to open air it will get contams in it does this not matter. would a flowhood help or is totally overboard. are contams that serious of a threat? if they are then wouldnt contams be a problem when i remove the humidity dome to give them fresh air? or are contams only a worry while the seeds are germinating or just for the first year in high humidity? I really appreaciate your help as i already have a huge cacti collection but would like to start a large seedling collection. Thanks!

ok so i dont have to be sterile in the least bit it sounds like. some germinated there seedlings in unsterile soil and with no use of fungicides. so is sterilizing the dirt a waste of time or just a higher percentage of sucess? some sites say to keep it humid to germinate the seeds then more conflicting information on people having a hard time germinating seeds to lower the humidity and let substrate dry out a bit. so i conclude that any tek will give sucess(whether you spoil them or just put them in dirt). well i see there are great cacti growers at the nook but everyone has a different idea of what to do. any suggestions on which style to do because id hate to have to purchase more seeds and wait for them to get here from the netherlands again.

I guess it is like loading a dishwasher. Everyone has a different way of doing it, and everyone is convinced that their way cleans the most efficiently.

I prefer a low nutrition equal mix of perlite, vermiculite, and coir that is suggested at the nook. Pasteurizing whatever mix you use couldn't hurt I suppose. Don't worry about nutrition peyote seedlings will be fine a long while in the mix I just proposed.
You can use a extra dilute insecticide/fungicide on them.
