I have a 4 piece Cosmic Percusion set with Evens heads, and Zildjin ZBT symbols (Hi-Hat, crash, ride, china). i have one tom and a floor tom in addition to my bass and snare.
i am going to purchase something to add on to my set at somepoint in the summer...what direction should I go? I was thinking a second Tom...but im not sure. more symbols is always a plus..but i do want to expand the set to be more creative in my beats/jamming.
so drummers...what should i purchase to add to my set?

Definitely get another tom, or 2. A couple of symbols, too. If you like the sound, you should maybe look into a set of congos for the side of your kit. They make for a nice mix in your sound.

You might like another floor tom. I prefer 1 hi-tom with 2 floor toms rather than the other way around. You get a much heavier sound.
EDIT: As for cymbals, you would probably get the most use out of another, different-sized crash.

Go ahead and get the double bass pedal. Many people think that double pedals are just for death metal....WRONG!! There are many cool sounds, rythms, and fills you can do with a double pedal. If not that I just gotta say I love my A customs.
What kind of music are you going to be playing? That is a major factor in deciding what to add on.

My set is more Jazzy...so i prefer the single bass pedal. i def think im going to go with another Tom..and possible another symbol. I like the idea of a crash.
Cosmic Percussion is kind of rare..so im not sure if i could find another Tom...any suggestions?

well if ur playin jazz, forget the double bass. Get the tom cuz in jazz toms arent just for fills....they need to be tuned to a note to make it more musical. Maybe I'm just talkin outta my ass, i dunno.

ill have to post a pic of my kit once i go home for summer.
i think that i am going to settle on a second tom...and either another crash(diff. size) OR a splash.
if you have a set post a picture!

Another floor tom, perhaps a tiny piccolo snare to play along with your snare. Arrays of cowbells and jamblocks are a great thing to add to your playing, but if u have the money definitely go with Rotatoms

no, you are exactly right. the toms fit in to the ensemble a lot more in jazz playing, where as in rock they have more of a "thud" to them. definitely still a pitch, but there's a difference. it seems to me that double bass pedals are over done by people who own them a fair amount of the time. if you get the technique down you can still do some pretty funky kick drum shit with a single pedal. and there is definitely an art to the double bass, it just drives me nuts when people think it's cool to rock 16th notes on the bass drum for every song, regardless of whether or not it fits the music.

Jazz is all about accents, and what I love is the variety in accents you can compliment the other musicians with. The ping on a ride, ghost notes on a snare, some tom rolls, or just a steady hi hat. Thats why I love jazz, because of how the drummers never leave out a single part of the set when they settle into a groove.

Ditch those ZBTs, I had those and they are ok for a beginner to learn on, but they really don't sound that good at all. I got this (link below) Ludwig tom expansion set for my kit and it REALLY kicks ass. It is cheap and with some better heads on it, it sounds awesome, I put some Remo pinstripes on mine.

Heres my set, the ludwigs match the stage custom set almost perfectly.
