inoculate jars that were sterilized over a month ago?
    #5562827 - 04/27/06 01:25 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I ran out of spores and never got around to innoculating my 2nd batch of jars. They've been sterilized and are ready to go. It's over a month later and I am ready.

Can I still use these jars? Or should I empty them and start over?

Anyone have success using jars that were sterilized over a month prior to innoculating?

Thanks

ive used jars that were 3 weeks old and the worked fine. you shouldn't have any troubles if the jars were sealed the whole time.

what is in the jars? how much ventilation do the jars have?

if its wbs and you use tyvek and have 5 or less holes, you could use them in like a year lol.

i'v used wbs jars that were over 3 months old and the moisture content was perfect still

I used the pf tek (brf/verm/h2o) in 1/2pt jars. Lids have small holes poked in for inoculation, and there's been aluminium foil on the top ever since pressure cooking.

All this stashed in the back of my kitchen cabinet for over a month.

Judging by what you all say, I should be fine.

As always, thanks shroomery.
Ya'll done did it again!

i wouldnt inoculate them this late.. i only say this because ive left jars out uninoculated, and contaminants inevitably happen when theres no mycillium to fight them off. If youve got extra spores to waste though, i'd say just do it to see what happens..

you can always just resterilize them too, if they havnt dried up..

dude... your supposed to pc them so athere are no living contam inside the jar thats the hole point. and if they are not alraedy showing contam then they are fine.

however i was speaking of wbs jars specificly not pf jars, i have no idea how long pf jars stay moist for or w/e so i would sugest just remaking them. (imho you shouldn't even waste your time with pf go streight to grain as long as you have a pc).
