Rubbermaid FC conversion

I usually do a Mono-tub setup, but this time around I had an extra bag of spawn and made a mini-casing in a ceramic planter that I designed.

I Already have a mono-tub and wanted to use that as the fruiting chamber, but Im not doing a bulk grow. Now, I was thinking to add 2 fans with poly-fil filters on one side of the mono-tub, and fill the rest of the holes with polyfil. For humidification I would add perlite to the tub. Anyone for-see any problems with this.

I think the fans will drop the humidity too much.

I have used a rubber maid with perlite in the bottom and polyfill stuffed holes in the top and bottom (like a mono/double tub set up) and it worked OK. I like a bit higher humidity so I misted the walls occasionally.

I was thinking about only putting 5 volts to a 12 volt computer fan. It would probably only push 12 CFM through the filters

Tthe fans would be a good idea. I mean, if you have the drive to set the fans up and you really want to, give it a go. Sure, simple is great and this tub would definitely work without fans... but sometimes a little more technical setup can be fun

If the humidity drops too much from the exchange and air movement, just take the fans out of the equation or mist the sides if you don't mind the "labour".

If you put a fan anywhere such that it brings in unhumidified air you will not be able to keep RH levels anywhere near where you need them.

Think about this in reverse.

Right now my room is a comfortable 75F/31%. Suppose I wanted to bring my room RH up to 90% using this box filled with wet perlite and a 5v fan. My room will NEVER hit 90% RH. But if your fan is exhausing the incubator's air, it has to take some air in through another hole and that air will be sub-90% RH, always.

The fan pushes 13 cubic feet per minute. I'm going to guess your grow box is that size or smaller. So the fan will be dissapating 100% of any humidity the perlite generates every 60 seconds or so. My numbers are certainly wrong but whether the correct answer is every 10 seconds or every 200, you'll still never hit 90% RH inside that box.

This is coming from my personal experience in other types of grows where humidity is an issue. I think you're asking for way more work and way less payoff just for the sake of tinkering. But if that floats your boat, go to it! =)
