What methods can be used to sterilize straw?

That tek has a way of prepairing your straw that is fool proof, it seems to work every time that I have done it and that is also the best tek for using straw I have scene. only problem is the polytubing is $60 a roll.

I believe you want to pasturize straw rather than sterilize it. Not too sure why that is, but I think when pasturizing some benificial bacteria stay behind which ward off contams, or make it harder for them to overtake. When you sterilize it becomes sorta free for all, so any contam in the area will start growing on the straw, possibly quicker than it can get colonized by the mycelium.

correct me if I'm wrong, though....

i didnt want to do this because it brings to much attention but would placing straw in a laundry bag or something and putting it in a drum filled with water, heated by a propane burner work?
