BRF - BRF transfer
    #5561807 - 04/27/06 06:30 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

hi all shroomery members, i was wondering if it is possible to make pf to pf cake transfer by opening the jar and crumbling a colonized pf cake in a a sealed freezer bag and the doing the same thing with a sterilized cake? would this process be too unsterile with all the opening the bag to remove jars and all or what? all suggestions and comments are highly appreciated. also is it possible to even make a brf to brf transfer in a simple way??

its certainly possible but without a flowhood or glovebox you're chances of contaming are so high its not really worth trying.

simplest way would be to take a sterilized jars jars minus the verm layer, and a sterilized jar with nothing but dry verm. load all that as well as a colonized jar and ziplock into your glove box (or in front of hood)... crumble, take a marble sized piece and lodge it into a fresh jar, cover with dry verm and you're off.

again its risky and a lot more work, and my guess is you're not going to see much of an increase in colonizing time anyway since its gotta work its way all the way to the bottom. at least with multispore/lc injection you're starting at the midway point in the jar and it works its way up and down simultaneously... so possible? you bet. practical? not really, considering we have methods like LC for sterile and lightning fast innoculations without the need to start from spores.
