hps help

ok so i bought a 150w hps came with ballast and ignitor. Built a box for it, and used a nice extention cord to hook it up.
after hooking it up it turns on, and warms up. During this time it is buzzing alot. then when its fully warmed up the buzzing would stop or get very quiet.(buzz goes down as light goes up)
months later:
i added a timer(heavy duty 3 prong)(my cord is 3prong also)
at first everything was fine, but about a week after this i think i have problems now.
it seems,(maybe im just imagining) that the start up buzzing never quits. I "thought" if i remember right that when i first hooked it up after warm up the buzz would be gone...but there would be a nice little "hum" to it.
now i have just a constint buzzing....seems very annoying all the sudden. when i shake certain parts of my extention cord it affects the way it buzzes(odd). The light still seems just as bright as before thow.
anyone have a similar setup that could tell me if this is normal?
p.s. i did use good wire screw connectors(blacktaped everything too). grounded box and hood.

Sounds like you have some parts vibrating in there.

a warranty perhaps?? if you got it used, then hrmmmm. take it in, i wouldnt really wanna mess around with a ballast, personally, because i am not an electrician. but if the light works and the ballast isnt too hot (test this by putting a match head on the side of ballast, and if it lights, its too hot! if its too hot, may cause a fire and i dont think you want that) then i wouldnt worry. but thats just me.
