i just started an outdoor patch using bluelou's tek.
The tek uses "black kow" brand cow manure. My local home depot only had 1 small bag left so i used a different brand also.

I unloaded 6 "quart sized" jars of B+ strain on rye berries.

small patch on the left used the black kow, the right side is that other stuff

covered is with a few rocks.

once there pinning i'll throw up the cover.

has anyone tried doing it this way without using the "black kow" brand cow manure?
do u think this shit will work the way i did it?

It should work
Random store bought cow manure has been known to work fine for cubes. Exceptionnally well actually.

my friend and i are planning on doing a similar grow with some pan cyans and penis envy, just ordered the spores last night : D
but yeah, cow poop works great, and so does just about any compost. one of my friends took a few cakes (thought they were infected) and just tossed them into his backyard and buried them. a couple weeks later, he was blessed with what turned out to be a 20 shroom a day harvest for several weeks...actually, i think it's still going. which reminds me, i need to call that guy...

It has been known to work, but not exceptionally well by any means. It's really hit or miss with store bought compost. I've never seen a grow from Black Kow that would hold a candle to one with h/poo.
I personally would recommend getting a hold of some good, aged horse poo if at all possible before using Black Kow or any other store bought compost.

Those results aren't consistent. Search through the many posts here about Black Kow and you'll see many different opinions from people who've used it. It's composition isn't consistent in all regions either, so the Black Kow that worked great for Joe Schmo in Wa won't always be the same for Jon Schmo in Florida.
I never said it doesn't work, just that the results aren't exceptional when you compare it to straight h/poo. That pic doesn't change my opinion.

First of all, Thanks for all your replies/thoughts.
Well, the good news is that the Myc is starting to penetrate the casing layer. however it's not even close to 95% penetrated and the pins are already forming. see pics below.

Should i pull the tiny pins until the casing is more fully covered with myc, Then trigger the pinning?
Am i doing something wrong thats causing "premature pinning"?
I am watering the casing layer with the hose every few days, so it's constantly moist. is this OK?
I look forward to your thoughts and opinions.

Am i doing something wrong thats causing "premature pinning"? NO... ksome just jump the gun...just keep doing what your doing

kool.. thanks. It's been about two weeks since i started this project and posted the initial pics on April 24th 2006. So at this rate, the casing layer should be fully colonized in another two weeks or so. I'll posts some new pics then.
Is this the normal length of time it takes to penetrate the casing layer? 1 month??

I agree totally agree with you, we're just trying to help out. It's a shame when someone puts so much time and effort to only use something that most would not.
Free hpoo is only to easy and that why people push for it.
Cool grow man and I hope it works out and it's nice to share and for others inspiration for there own outdoor grow
