Less than the boiling point.

Just boil some water, take it off the burner. let it sit for like 2-3 mintues with the lids off...and go from there

It's a bit above 170F and below 212F fo sho.

The hotter the water, the less time you'll need to let it soak...

WBS requires a lot of :eyeball: ...

i think the easier thing to do is get the water to a raging boil and then take it off of the stove. dump the wbs or rye in and let sit for 30 min. that way you do not have to worry about the temperature geting so hot and destroying your wbs or rye but at the same time it is expanding.

i dont think it matters how dirty your pc is because it is gonna be PC'd! You can use it i guess, but why not just use a big pot? it doesnt matter the time that it is simmered, it matter how hydrated the wbs is. this generally happens between 30 and 45 min but it depends. just scoop some out and when about 10-20% is busted your pretty much hydrated.

Baby Hitler makes a good point in that post:

For PF jar sterilization purposes, the correct temperature for "simmer" would be 212?F / 100?C. The same temperature as "boil".

The difference between "boil" and "simmer" isn't a matter of temperature, but of energy. It's the same temperature, but you lose water faster in the form of steam, which takes all the heat with it.

Tiny bubbles man, tiny bubbles.

Yes, baby hitler is correct. A simmer is a very soft boil. To remove from the burner and cover is known as a 'steep'.

Would steeping be good?

Steeping is far better than simmering, IMHO.

I don't SIMMER spawn grains.

well i have found that when i steeped there was very little to no difference in water content as compared to just soaking for 24-48 hours then pcing.

in my humble opinion the simmer is 100% un necissry but i am no pro. its just what i have observed.
