to twist or slice?
    #5560215 - 04/26/06 08:34 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

A friend just harvested his 'beds' first flush, by cutting the shrooms with a knife, leaving some very blue chunks of stem in the substrate, was this an error and will the 'left over' stem bits rot, and in turn wreck any chance of a 2nd flush? Or is this OK? would it be better to simply 'twist' them out to ensure no 'leftovers' are left? This happened yesterday, if need be, is it too late to remove the chunks left in the bed? :mushroom2:

remove those chunks as soon as possible, they will rot if he leaves them in the substrate.

More importantly, if they rot you're just begging for lots and lots of happy green mold. I always twist to remove... some people I know cut with scalpals, but it just seems too risky when you consider the consequences. At least with twisting you almost always can get the whole thing off.

You want to gently cut off the fruit at the base.
