CoolWorks Ice Probe Chiller

Anyone ever incorporate one of these into their grow? I've seen it advertised for $105 somewhere else and a probe/control is $65-ish.
I'm mentioning this because where I live it can easily get into the 90's during some summer days. Heating the myc environment is pretty simple -- $25 to $40 on a submersible heater and a few bucks for the second tub to put it in (TiT). Cooling is a little different.
So in addition to your thoughts on the IceProbe, how do the skilled growers here deal with the problem now. Short of leaving the AC on full bore to keep the room in the mid 70's to induce pinning (which is out of the question, really)...

Good topic, I am worried about the heat in summer, warming is easier then cooling...
So I have been thinking about this. I have not come to a solution but this is 'cool'
Interesting product, I got it saved.

your fine fruiting into the 80's? if you house is any hotted teh nsay 90 i suggest you move to a more temperate climate say on the ocean beucase that just too hot you'll be sweaty and gross! how can you function like that!

as you said snaggle tooth it is easier to heat than to cool so why not move setup into an air conditioned room and continue to heat

skeletor: Actually I'm a hot-and-humid fan. It's snow I downright hate. For THAT reason I should move.
I live about 100ft from the Atlantic ocean so the humidity can be brutal. But you know what they say about New England: If you don't like the weather just wait 15 minutes...
BPJohnny: I think you're missing the goal. If I wanted to keep my myc in a 75F environment, I could set the chiller to maintain 75 and set my water heater to maintain 75. If it got colder the heat pad would kick in. If it got warmer the chiller would start.
The idea, of course, is to fine-tune the two thermocouplers so that a steady (hell, why not experiment with temp fluctuation intervals while we're at it?), desired temperature is achieved.
It would be a terrible idea to cool an entire room when you can cool a 1 sqft box.
futurewolf42o: It's way better than a generic fan+heatsink setup. It uses the Peltier Effect to actively cool the liquid by wicking away heat. That model (50W?) can take your average tank -8F, IIRC. 50W, though that's from memory too...
If I don't see any credible negative feedback I think I'll pick one up.

Bear in mind, that is a thermoelectric chip. One side gets ice cold, the other gets very hot. The heat sink you see is the hot side. They are inefficient in that more heat is created above ambient temp on the hot side, than is drawn in by the cold side.
You can also lower the temp in a terrarium five degrees or so by laying a damp towel over it. RR

as alsnow469 said you can easliy get a small AC unit to use in your grom room/area that should work fine, however it would lower humidity as well so you must compensate.

interesting idea...but if you want to lower costs just use ice packs and place them in the fruiting chamber...they usually last about 6 hrs and it is sufficient to cool down the terr. for fruiting.
