Jackpot!

I just returned from hunting!  I'd post pictures of all the finds, but it would take too long as there are so many different species, besides, camera phones are hardly worth the effort.  The pill bottle is for size comparison.
The mushies on the napkin are Coprinus micaceus, and the one shiny brown mushroom in my hand is one of my favourites, and very beautiful Croogomphus vinicolor.  Not much more to say.  A few puffballs, mostly agarics, and some too-dry-to-tell teeth fungi.  I am looking forward to the identification process   I will update with names as soon as I identify them!

Nice haul you got there! Didn't think there'd be so many shrooms in California at this time of year!

Have fun with the ID'ing

Yeah really!  a month ago would have been best to go hunting, but I was lazy.  I am surprised there are still so many fresh mushrooms around.  I also found some hidden cow pastures near my house

Cow Pastures won't do you much good in CA if you're looking for actives (unless, I guess, you're way up north in liberty cap territory). You should scope out horse stables and construction sites with straw bales.

What makes the cow patties in california any different?  Also, I have been finding these guys in some pretty unlikely spots so far, so you never know.... However, the cows are a bit hard to get to, and i know of two places within 5-10 min walk of my house with PLENTY of straw.  One of them is an equestrian stable.

The subbs have come out to play, probably due to the fortuitous amount of rain we have been getting. I would look in horse fields, particularly in moderately damp zones, as close to water as you can get without sinking into mud...
